CVS Is Closing 900 Stores

I do my grocery shopping at Albertsons, and that is also my pharmacy. The staff knows me and it is a decent experience.

I at least find the staff at Walgreens trying, by welcoming me each time I go inside. The check-out process is pretty quick as well, since they will call more staff to the registers. At CVS, I never see anyone around. There are two check-out exits at my particular CVS (which may be part of the problem). Sometimes there are cashiers there. Sometimes not. Seems very "loosey goosey".

Here in Canada, there are way too many restaurants. There are however, thousands that will never appear again due to the influence of Covid. With Covid many customers stayed away and decided to learn how to cook. However, the take out coffee shops (Tim Horton & MacDonald's) always seem to have a long line of cars. Also, driving around the city I see physiotherapy places it seems like on every block. People don't exercise, don't walk, sit too much on their phones and computers so I guess the physiotherapy business is booming.

The kicker that made me stop using CVS was they gave me 3 pills for my heart one time, got a big blizzard. I called them saying I was out of my heart medicine & what are you going to do since I can't get out to get it. They told me sorry they don't have any of that medicine in the pharmacy & won't till a truck comes in. I went 5 days without my heart medicine. They would not fill a script till I was down to 1 or 2 pills.

I too, have had this problem with CVS. It's a very serious one, and I do not know if other pharmacies are doing this or not.

I comprehend that none of them give as large supplies as they used to, and do not refill a script, way ahead of time,
But my local CVS refuses to give a refill, even just 2 days early, and even if there is a huge winter storm forecast. They also will not refill one, a day sooner, if you do not drive and have no one to pick it up for you, on that day of the week, that they make you wait for.

They do this for long-term ongoing scripts, that are surely not going to be suddenly dropped or frequently changed. They make no allowances, nor give any tiny leeway for very elderly or very disabled, who have very few options for transport.

Are all of the other pharmacies functioning that way, now?
With such extreme strict wait-for-exact-date, for ongoing refills?

I have been slow to switch all scripts to Walgreens, with their heavy workload for only one Pharmacist employed there.

There are a ridiculous number of pharmacies near me. Far more than the area can support. The only parts of the news of 900 CVS stores closing is that it hadn't happened sooner and that it's only 900.

They would not fill a script till I was down to 1 or 2 pills.

That's my worst problem with CVS. And they make no exceptions, regardless of the reasons or what the script is.

Could any of you, say if other pharmacies are doing that same thing, now, or not?
