Dad killed for asking a vapor not to near his child, more recorded than called 911

A Dad at a Canadian Starbucks was stabbed to death after he asked a vapor not to smoke near his child. Apparently more worried about recording the murder than calling the police.

Just a loud or physical discussion should've triggered at least one call before the stabbing.
Yes, there's many instances on YouTube. People video instead of calling the cops.

That's what social media has done to us.

We live in a callous and foolish world.
We really do. When I was young, I went to over a hundred concerts with zero problems. About a year ago there was a concert where many audience members got trampled to death. Instead of helping people took pictures like it was part of the concert.
This type of thing never happened before.
People actually cared about one another.
Are we now living in a heartless world?

Yes, we are living in a heartless world.
That's why confronting strangers is not wise; you never know who you're dealing with or how they'll react.
Much like the mother who flipped off another driver who cut her off & someone in the other car fired at her car, killing her 6-year-old son.
In that situation, it's much smarter to just move away.

Wouldn't it have been much more to the point to move the child away from the vaper, rather than try to play "cop" with a stranger?
that was my very first thought...not that it excuses what happened because the killer by dint of carrying a knife was clearly a ticking time bomb....but it may well not have been THIS victim...

More and more people are refusing to be involved in helping their fellow man.
In todays local papers.. a London woman was at underneath her car doing repairs, when a car mounted the pavement at speed, and crashed into her car sending the woman 16 feet up the road..injured

In the video taken from a Video ringdoorbell.. we can see the 2 grown men ( not kids,) get out of the car look over and see the woman lying prone on the ground and just walk away from the accident... plus the 2 members of the public who were standing at a nearby bus stop who witnessed the whole event.

Yes and no. Being it 's a Starbucks it's not exactly a banquet hall. If inside the fumes and smoke were probably lingering. Even if outside if the vapor was up wind there still might no place to go. But the biggest many vapors are lacing their crap with other drugs besides nicotine so yes there's the stranger along with.a possible druggie.

he was outside the shop...

I believe the man and his child were sitting on a bench. From the bit I’ve seen, the man was clean cut looking and seemed like someone who it would be reasonable to ask to leave.

I refuse to watch the video. The videographer is now making money off this being posted on social media. If these sites said that nothing would be paid for views of a crime, maybe the public would start thinking about the victims and not about making a few bucks.

It wasn’t really a question I was seeking an answer to. I’m perfectly aware that mankind can be evil savages.

The last concert I was talking about wasn’t in Canada and this incident in Starbucks isn’t the norm for here. Not that our country is exempt from violence. It’s not.

Only the other night on T.V. this stupid woman was vaping with her baby on her lap, it was about 9 months old, next minute she put the vape
into the baby's mouth and it started coughing heaps, she and her other cronies sat there and laughed. Authorities have asked for details of who this idiot is, I hope they find out and penalise her. Makes you wonder how these poor children turn out in the end.

I remember that. No charges filed. Mother said nobody is perfect and mind your own business in so many words.

An example of: "I just wanted the boyfriend; I didn't want the kid."
These are the babies that are found in trash bins.
Neil Young sang about it: (Rockin' In The Free World)
I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
There's an old street light (near a garbage can)
And now she put the kid away and she's gone to get a hit
She hates her life and what she's done to it
There's one more kid that'll never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool

An article on Germany's new crime statistics today states that knife attacks and criminality in children and young people are on the rise:

"Berlin. The chairman of the police union, Jochen Kopelke, has warned of increasing knife attacks in view of the new police crime statistics (PKS). "The rising number of knife attacks is sufficient evidence that this means of crime is increasingly becoming a problem, despite all the statistical inaccuracies of the PKS," he told RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND). "Our colleagues must be prepared to always and constantly be threatened or directly attacked with a knife." That, he said, is extremely dangerous.

Kopelke stressed, "We need to do a much better job of clarifying and understanding the time before attacks and the causes of knife attacks. The goal must be to prevent knives from being used in the first place." In any case, he said, it would be promising to visibly increase the presence of the authorities responsible for security in all areas accessible to the public. This included trains and public transport. According to PKS, 8160 knife attacks were registered in 2022 - 15.4 percent more than in the previous year.

Number of assaults on police officers rises again

The police unionist went on to say that the number of assaults on police officers, which has now risen again by more than 11 percent, is also "very worrying". Every day, an average of about 94 of them would become victims of a physical attack. "That leaves me speechless," he said. Intensive consideration finally demanded that children and young people were increasingly suspected of crimes, he said. Here, police officers experience "more and more often a considerable lack of respect, adherence to rules and insight into having done something wrong."

The problem is international in Western countries.

An awful thing.

I noticed in the article that due to lack of evidence of premeditation the perpetrator is being charged with second degree rather than first degree murder. I'm not sure what that means, but I would hope someone who does something like this would spend the rest of their life in jail. Seems to be to be basic public safety. I believe someone stupid enough to do something like this once is more likely that the average person to do it again.

If there was evidence that it was somehow self defense or even an accident that would be different, but from what I read it doesn't sound like it.

Premeditated means it was planned well ahead of time; that would be first degree.

I’m cynical. He won’t get a long term, at least as long as I feel it should be, and it will be fought by lawyers for years. Then appealed.
