Dad to assited living?

My dad is 88 years old. He lost my mom a little over a year ago. He refused to leave their home in Florida to come with myself or my sister.

Well I have found out that recently he has been having trouble with his legs giving out on him and falling. 3 times in 1 day last week. He also just recently drove his car into 3' of water destroying it.

My sister and I are scrambling to put transportation to get down to him. This is the first time he has shown a willingness to move to a place with assited living.

I am looking for any tips, things to look for, procedures to make it happen.

I don't have tips for you, but someone here will. What I want to ask is that since this is the first time he's been open to the idea of assisted living, wouldn't he consider a facility close to you and your sister? Is there any reason it has to be in Florida so far from his family?

He is very involved in his church being a decon and head usher. I doubt he will be able to continue his usher duties, but has very many friends he has made over the years. He does not want to give them up

Ah... well those are very good reasons to want to stay then. I hope this works out for him... being able to stay near his church and his friends seems a good trade-off for getting a little help with the day to day things that are difficult for him.
