Dancing in your seventies, etc. what's your take

I couldn't dance in The 70s, and I'm sure as h**l not going to try again in my 70s.

Actually this couple look great dancing. I think I should have added to my post - that the elderly seniors who dance at our community events with rock and roll bands, look awful because they still dress like in their twenties, the women, with low cut tank tops and saggy old boobs hanging out and shorts that are too short for fat bums hanging out too. Yuck!
Unkind comments which do not show you in a flattering light either, just my opinion of course. Oh and welcome to the forum :)

Over the years, my ex and I have danced in Local, State and National competitions. As a matter of fact, when we first meet and started to get serious she told me she was a dancer and didn't plan on stopping, even if she went by herself. We danced together as partners for over 20 years. She still dances and teaches at 72 and is the President of a local dance club. We remained best of friends and co-workers. We both own a company and work across the hall from each other. Almost daily, when she leaves I see her carrying her dance bag with shoes.

I'm not 70 yet but I can see it in the headlights here. I never got into it, too shy and awkward and it wasn't a part of family background. It does look fun though, and when nobody is around I can ape something a little like dancing.

... I haven't found a way to overcome this instinctive cringe. Built on my personal view, senior equals dignity and modern dance lacks that dignity!
Well it's good to understand the reason it makes you cringe.

Maybe remembering that those seniors might have been the "free-spirits" of the 60s, or they might have missed out on a lot of fun in their best years because they had to work their butts off, maybe that would help you decide if the reason is valid.

But whether it is or isn't, it's also good that you know it doesn't matter to them. (y)

Well Trish, at least my wife and I were complimented, although I don't think that maxicat123 realised it was us. But I do agree with you, personal comments are best left unspoken.

Many years ago, my wife and I spent many a happy hour ballroom dancing, we loved the Latin dances too, but with ballroom, dressing up made you feel the part. We had some great outfits and I must admit that this photo is not us, all our Latin & Ballroom photos are on celluloid. I have heard that they can be transferred to digital but technology and me.........well let's just say that I will stick to dancing, I can do that.

I love to dance! Before COVID, my son and his (used to be) protege gave House music parties at a local establishment. I'd always be on the floor. One night when his partner took over to give my son a break, I was dancing with him. Later he said one of his Gen-X friends came up to him and asked who was that lady you were dancing with...she's got moves. My son said he was shocked when he said "My mother." :D

I don't do a lot of fancy stuff but I know I'm very "fluid", flexible and I've definitely got rhythm. When I hear a great beat, I just can't sit still. A few times since I was younger, I've been asked if I was a professional dancer. BTW...that night at the club, I was 71 years old.

BTW..to answer your question in the OP...I think if people can dance, no matter what age, they look good dancing. It's the ones that can't dance...no matter what age, that may look silly. When people are out just having fun, they may not mind looking silly and that's okay. :D
