Dash cams.

Do any of you have dashboard cameras? Ron wants to get us outfitted..his work van and my car as the two vehicles we drive the most.
Anyone use them, or have any wisdom to share?

I would suggest that a camera on a work van is OK, I would
also suggest that, that camera, uploads the recordings to
somewhere, like cloud, if it is possible, any time that it is recording.

I don't have one.

Mike.

Got one in all our cars. Don't remember any of the makes. They just plug into the cigarette lighter...(cough, cough, I mean aux power source). ;) The latest one records both the front and rear. We leave them plugged in while out and about so you can see if someone comes near your vehicle (or say bumps into it), and unplug them at home because the game cams take over home and yard surveillance

May I ask how these work while you are out and about? If your car ignition is off then what’s powering it? Aux power source?

I think it’s a great idea to have a dash cam. We don’t have them because DH says it just another thing for him to monitor. His other reason is the hate of cords draping around things.

People have proven that they were not the cause of an accident. Or proven that someone else did something. Or for those dash cams that run all night, they’ve caught video of thieves.

Police are always asking for any dash cam video if something has happened. It might be they just see who is in the vicinity.

These things will be worth it if you're ever in a crash where the other car is at fault. No more he said... I said. Proof is on video.
They are especially handy if you are dealing with a road rager who is short braking you. (sadly, a common deal here).
Before video, you would be declared at fault.

Yes I've got one, had one for years. husband fitted it... it records and the footage goes in 30 second loops... and uploads to the Cloud... However mine keeps falling off the windscreen, I've tried all sorts of sucker things to keep it on.. but it doesn't want to stay on...

Modern cars like my Daughters' Toyota RaV 4 Hybrid has one already installed

Yeah we had to option on the new car (hybrid also) we bought last year, and decided against. Now we’re kicking ourselves! šŸ˜–
