He's still young. That he was expecting this to happen makes it even sadder. He experienced the tragic effects of this condition with his mother and grandfather, having the feeling he would wind up like them. So sad.

I heard that on the news, so sad, my aunt died with Alzheimer's so it's always in the back of my mind. Scary stuff because nowadays it seems like simple forgetfulness in old age isn't the way it used to be, it's much more severe.

In the article it says dementia, not AD, there are many types of dementia. AD is just one of them.

AD is not just forgetfulness, that is normal in aging, it is a gradual loss of all brain activity and as the brain controls the body one by one all your functions cease .

He is just 3 years older than I am. All these people we liked, or listened to when we were young. Sad. Of course, saw an ad on TV that Dr. Phil has already nabbed David for an interview. Cripes. I heard somewhere that some are trying to say it was because of his alcohol problems when he was younger. I am not sure I agree with that.

Same here Marie, very sad. I don't like the fact that they try to blame him somehow for alcohol problems. From what I've seen, many very smart people who have no addictions can fall victim to dementia, Reagan comes to mind as an example.
