Days of staying home

Days I don't have anything to do are hardest to enjoy. I reached out to a yoga instructor in the town I used to work, waiting for a reply. Warmer temperatures will melt the snow and Ice to hike at a nearby wooded park. Today was too cold to hike without bundling up. Hope lends patience, sooner or later, patience wains until it disappears altogether.

Even being stuck at home, I always have something to do. Reading, browsing computer, watching the squirrels and birds in the backyard from my sunroom. I go for a walk every and bundle up if it is colder - days here should be getting warmer.

Take each day as it comes and hope will follow, Mr Ed.

I don’t consider this being ‘stuck’ at home. Being at home is a personal preference and pleasure to me while I can get lost in reading, painting, singing, playing a musical instrument or whatever my heart desires. Going for a walk each day with our 4 legged family members is a high light of my day. Once the weather is warmer I can start doing gardening, clean up the property or have a fire. There is always something to do so I’m never bored or lonely even when I spent most times by myself.

You're right I choose what I do and don't do, on that note I have nothing more to say.

Did I offend you in some way? That wasn’t my intention. I’m not sure what advice to offer so wrote down things that I do. I understand you just retired recently and I know from experience that men , in general , have the hardest time with retirement. Their entire lives have been dedicated to having a purpose which involves service with or for others. Suddenly they are retired and many feel hopeless. Now it’s even more difficult due to Covid but you seem stable minded enough that you’ll adapt with a bit of time. I think Remy offered some good advice in seeking out hobbies. Once you’ve discovered hobbies you enjoy see where that takes you? You might wish to donate your work to charities or be contracted out privately. Keep open minded.

dear friend you did not offend me, your words are true I do what I choose to do and to have it pointed out to me showed I was seeking sympathy for my poor state of being. Yet there I was feeling sorry myself with the intention of obtaining forum support. I should bury my head in the sand, just kidding

Going from work to retirement is a big adjustment. I remember taking a lot of naps right after I retired. But then, I came up with things I liked to do that I didn't have time for when I was working.
It's been almost a year since my husband passed away. With the restrictions added on to losing him, it's been a challenge to keep busy and not get lonely. One thing that helped me was sticking with the same schedule as before. The same bed time, getting up at the usual time, getting dressed soon after I get up, and sticking with the same daily schedules of chores and shopping.
You really have to use your imagination to make a new life for yourself. Trying new things and, when we can do it safely, getting out to meet some new people. Perhaps a restaurant where folks meet up for breakfast.....things like that.
I have hope that things will get better as time goes by.

Could you get out in your car instead? Anything as long as you're out doing something and seeing new things until it's warm enough to walk. I couldn't imagine staying in.

Mr Ed, are you handy? There are many seniors who need small jobs done. It’s not high pay but someone who is really handy could keep themselves busy.
