Days of Torrential Rain and Flooding in Texas. Now 6 Dead.

Flooding is becoming common evidently due to climate change...

My son was stationed at Fort Hood after he graduated from West Point. It is a huge base. So sorry for the lose of these fine young soldiers.

Am intensely grieved by the loss of those Army folks in the flood. Their chain of command should be investigated and held accountable for putting them in that situation.

I thought I saw one report where that there was flooding in past but probably not on this scale. Still though if a vehicle was overturned it would seem they were crossing the water currents. Anyone who has seen flash flooding would've at least advised against that. I've seen flash flooding where the old steel gas guzzler cars were tossed around in 2-3 foot water. Usually the military is pretty good with safety in general being the tools and jobs are extremely dangerous.

This is was a rough week for the military in general. The Navy lost a Blue Angel pilot in a crash, a couple of special forces had to be taken off a mountain with altitude sickness and I believe there was some still missing at Ft Hood. I think there was helicopter crash with some Marines in the last month as well. It also came out that some of the same Navy Seal instructors were present when trainees died or were killed in training. The point is TRAINING is to weed out the weak AND more importantly teach people to avoid or stay alive in these same situations. And although not combat training can be just as dangerous and safety needs to be taken just as seriously.

When I flew for United, I would fly into DFW (Dallas-Ft. Worth). In the spring, we always kept a very close eye on the weather in that area because of the tornadoes and severe downdrafts or what is now known as "microbursts." On one such occasion in 1985, a Delta plane with over 100 souls on-board went down due to one of these microbursts and that was the first time I had ever heard the term, "microburst." I remember it pretty well because the plane was an L-1011 and at that time was known as the safest plane in the sky. So, here is the eerie part. After the crash, parts were taken from what remained of the plane and recycled to be used on other aircraft. One of those planes, I can't remember which one, but you may be able to Google it, had parts from that plane installed on it and the flight attendants had reported seeing visions (ghosts) of the flight attendants from that plane. The Captain had even reported seeing a vision (ghost) of the Captain from that dreadful flight and the vision actually spoke to him saying, "Don't worry, no more 1011's will ever go down," or something to that effect. It was just one of those legends that got passed around between many of us who were in the aviation business. The first time that I heard the tale, it really freaked me out.

Check out the following clip from a movie made for TV about the accident. I think Earnest Borgnine played the part of the Captain. BTW, the scream from the lady was probably dubbed later when the editors did the dubbing.
