Deadbeat customer

More than a few people have advised me to start selling online if I wanted to really move thing out of my parent's estate. I tried with a pocket watch. A man responded to my ad on Facebook and said he's send a check if I gave him my mailing address. That was two weeks ago and I still haven't received the check. I sent him a PM through FB and he was like "Yeahhhh, I changed my mind."

Okay, thanks for letting me know!

Be careful giving out your address to strangers online Deb, he might not even have been interested in buying the watch, maybe he's a criminal who just wanted to know where you lived and maybe harm you or take that watch and other valuables for free. Don't you have legitimate businesses/stores in your area that buy gold, coins, jewelry, etc.? That's the route I would take with watches and things.

I strongly agree. You never know what people are out there trolling for. I also would not send a check to someone I did not know, either -- they would then have your banking information and could do some damage with that. They could "wash" the check or use to to create a fake check on your account. This happened to my sister.

I've sold a few things in the local Craigslist ads pretty quickly in the past, a vehicle, a down winter parka, teak CD cases, framed art print, etc. I always asked for their information first and contacted them by phone, before giving them my address. Also, always insisted on cash only.

Debodun, I don't and never have sold anything online,
but I have bought stuff, including from Ebay.

If you go back and look at things for sale on Ebay, if
your Ebay is like our one here, most sellers use PayPal
to receive payment, they may charge a bit, but when
somebody fancies something, it is paid for immediately.

So you should talk to PayPal or look around the Ebay
site, they are the preferred payment method at our Ebay.

Good luck.

Mike.
