Dear Facebook, you're fired!

I had thought of posting in Computers & Phones, but my concern was not technology it was mental health.

I got to the point of just having enough of the fake garbage that gets served up, by the we-know-what-you-want algorithm, where you have to fact check every single item shoved your way. Fake, twisted, deception, lies...all designed to distort your view of reality...there's just no end to it.

The profit motive is glaringly obvious, the sinister purposes for destroying faith in what you see and think point to the Orwellian model of mind control and manipulation.
 

Iā€™ll stick with Facebook as long as as family and friends do.

I use messenger almost everyday and do a quick scan of my Facebook feed to see what my peeps are up to but I rarely post anything.

I do get annoyed when I look at a reel or do searches for shopping and then find my Facebook feed clogged with worthless nonsense.

I suppose that even free has a price. šŸ˜‰šŸ¤­šŸ˜‚

Everytime I have a problem with FB I get msg's from Meta. Maybe it is the same company but they sure changed
something once that name began showing up and the ads!!! Piles of them now. Shut one off and then more of something else you
stopped to read starts popping up. It's endless.
 
I was on facebook for a short time. There wasn't much there that I couldn't do with email. I wasn't interested in making friends with friends of friends, but I can see how that could attract others. I don't remember fake news or alternate "facts," but I see how the format would invite that kind of nonsense. My group was pretty level headed. Still, nothing about it excited me.
 
sadly, this is all social media not just FB. While the idea at first seemed fine connect with others etc
I had some time I could keep up with friends that moved etc. For some it became something else. Too many people buy into others are doing more things or living a better life....and feeling depressed or left behind etc.
Constant comparison or buying into a fake world is not good. Many fake claims or scams or theories but also people you know....

I had a co-worker who we all made close to exact same salary, yet she had very very nice vacations or things that made some feel how the heck can she afford that....... I knew her wealthy parents had paid not her and her spouse, but they sure liked people thinking they were wealthy. people at work actually asked her for financial advice...šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

My boss told me his ex-wife set aside one day each vacation where she had her hair and makeup professionally done dressed to the hilt and made family do same for FB photos. This was trying to create a life or vision she wanted to make her friends envy her. instead as my boss told others about dress up day made her look shallow and a fake.

I hate FB. It's nothing but trouble.
I had an account for a few years, but had it deleted (or whatever it's called) probably more than 15 years ago.
 
You can scan FB for the things you want and ignore the rest. In Canada it helped when they prohibited FB from copying News sites. This was done because it was felt FB was stealing their work. FB still wants to sell me some wonderful creams and beautiful clothes.
 
A quick scan has informed me that @Dr.Colosso is married to a convict and is holding pizza party fund raisers for his defense, on their yacht.

I've never belonged to FB and never will. I can't stand the lying owner who sells members' info and keeps saying he's sorry and they'll do better in the future -- over and over.
