I loved James Garner's works and his stellar reputation for being a good human within the industry and in his private life.

Murphy's Romance remains one of my go-to, feel good movies when I need a lift in spirits. Sally Field has said repeatedly that Garner was the was her all-time best onscreen kisser, by far.

She was masterful as Ursula - she played it so wonderfully trashy, funny, and hammed up. My all-time favorite Disney Villain. Thanks for tickling that memory, Sue. Brought me a smile this morning.

I was a kid when Marilyn died but it nevertheless hit me hard - she was such an icon.

When it became clear she was murdered, I was so angry. A Candle in the Wind, indeed.

I remember Richard Burton dying young-ish, but didn't realize how young. In 1984 I was still in my early 30s so 58 didn't seem as young to me as it does now.

On the other hand, considering how badly he abused his body with alcohol and tobacco, it's sort of surprising he lasted as long as he did.
