Deep Thoughts on Money and Happiness

All good points, and very true, but I wasn't just addressing this as a problem with youth. Adults and parents watch violent movies, play first person shooter games, watch boxing, wrestling, cage matches, and war movies. I think it is something inherent in the human animal that we just choose not to face. Just my opinion.
The stuff parents watch and the games they play pale in comparison to the stuff their children are *enjoying*.

I'm assuming you're saying that violence and/or the desire to observe it is inherent in humans. If that's true then we've lost the moral compass that kept in check for a couple centuries or so. Is this why our justice system drops or dismisses violent charges against habitual offenders, and why are schools more focused on social issues than academics, and why is there so much corruption in government and marketing? Why do so many TV evangelists live in multi-million-dollar mansions? Why do journalists sensationalize or alarm-ize their reporting?

And which came first, losing our moral compass, or all the stuff I just mentioned? Which do you think is the cause and which the effect?

I think a lot of the problem is that the way our society dictates our existence is contrary to the way we were designed by nature to exist.
I think you are absolutely right. We are trying to be civilized animals, and those two concepts generally aren't compatible.

I think perhaps if you had lived in the "Wild West" and such, you might have trouble locating that moral compass. My recollection of history is a bit different with the Civil Rights beatings and lynching of blacks, the Holocaust, and others. I think the thread has always been there, it's just more subtle and subdued. People seem to need an outlet for hostilities and stress, so now it can be achieved in more of an armchair fashion. Why else would anyone watch two people get into a ring to see who can knock the other person into unconsciousness and do possible brain damage and call it entertainment. The entertainment industry is cashing in on this facet of human nature.

My deep thought for today… negative thinking is the fuel for depression.

Yes, we know lots of awful things happen every day, although it makes sense to be aware…regurgitating bad events over and over serves no purpose. This regurgitation is like tossing a pebble of negative information into reasonably calm waters and watch it quickly develop into a maelstrom sending out waves of bad and sad thoughts to other people.

Those who are already sad for some reason or other, do not need the added burden of others’ negative thoughts.

Personally, I listen to the news once day, … I don’t need echoes reverberating around me…therefore I avoid negative people and those who feed on negativity.
Very well stated, and reflects my own resolve to look for positive thoughts and insights to share with friends daily. It does a body good, for myself and them!

Money is meaningless. Possessions are meaningless.
To flaunt possessions, money or to carry an air of superiority
is not conducive to the growth to God.
Nothing is needed but your soul.
The light in your soul, seen by entities of the Heavens, is dimmed
by pretenses and affections.
Shouldn't we value moments, happiness, love instead of things?

As far as money. I decided early on that I would not spend my life chained to it and I have lived largely comfortable and happy. Low overhead and low maintenance is my maxim.
Congrats on a great choice and following through. Very wise indeed.

That was a news Item. At no time did I denigrate people for being fat.. or overweight. Just the opposite. I was asking how this new law in the USA was going to be put into Practice.. nothing more. ..I'm not going to justify posting a news item every time I post it.. you need to read that again..I was not attacking overweight people just the opposite..:oops:
Again, truce. Let it go. You look great in your new avatar!

And I'm not arguing your opinion. I'm just pointing out that most adults are very good at satisfying their, let's say, "violent impulses" by watching sports and gawking at car wrecks and whatnot without acting on those impulses, and children aren't.

It is good to have money and the things that money can buy, but it's good too, to check up once in a while and make sure you haven't lost the things money can't buy, like:
My darling wife who does a million little things that bring joy to my life. She is the gift of love.
Time: People always say time is money, but it doesn't have to be. Each day of my life, has been, and continues to be, priceless.
Health: Look to your health; and if you have it, praise God and value it next to a good conscience; for health is a blessing that money cannot buy; therefore value it, and be thankful for it.
There is so much that money cannot buy and so much for which I am grateful for.

My perspective........." It's only money, and you can't take it with you, when you die ". But somewhere a Scotsman is trying to figure out how to do just that......JImB.
