Define in your own words, what being a gentleman means to you.

The Oxford English Dictionary: "A man who is polite and well educated, who has excellent manners and always behaves well."
To that I would add:
A man whose conduct conforms to a high standard of propriety or correct behaviour. He is polite, well educated, never gives offence and his courtesy is exemplary.
There's one trait that men often do, that the ladies omit. You have a runny nose? Sniff! No you don't, it's disgusting, worse still is when they spit out the result. Yuk! Can't ever recall seeing a lady being so gross.

Gentleman

A gentleman is someone who is "gentle."
Someone who places you first
and does not brag or boast about himself.
He is kind and does not shout or swear.
He thinks before he speaks
And returns a "thank you" or a smile
When someone does him a good turn.

A gentleman is tender and loving
And is not afraid to show it.
Flowers sprout from his hands during celebrations
Doors miraculously open when he is with you
Coats lift easily on your shoulders in wintertime
Strong arms hold your elbow so you don't slip on the ice.
A gentleman is more than a word.
He is a loving, living soul that is blessed with goodness.
He is a keeper.

I was lucky to be married to such a person. This poem is in memory of him.

Check your post. You didn't say you were holding the door but maybe you were.
I assumed opening the door meant holding the door as well. What I do is peek backwards and I’ll hold the door for up to 15 seconds unless the lady is disabled, no limit then.
