I will say in my past, I never once thought of hurting those who abused me with lethal or semi lethal weapons.
I can't say how I would have reacted say 15 years ago if I was in that same position at that age. As the song by The offspring went "Come out and play"

I guess if we didn't have guns, we would have swords, Spears, daggers and knives. A gun means you can just kill from a further distance.
