Dentist Raised Prices and is Cutting Corners

My dental bill for check-up, x-rays and cleaning increased 25% since last year (last year $275, this year $346). Also they have stopping giving "goodie" bags (a toothbrush, floss and toothpaste). I though the sample bag was just an oversite, so when I had to pass by the office the other day, I stopped in and inquired. I was informed that they have stopped giving out the samples because they are not given to them to give away, they have to buy them. Just made me wonder what could have happened to explain it. I am sure if she is losing business she wouldn't confide that to me. Maybe office rental increased?

I'm willing to bet that your dentist accepts a sharply reduced negotiated payment for the same services from the various dental insurance plans that other patients present for payment compared to the prices charged to cash customers.

The price of Everything rises a bit every year....Dentists are no exception, and they must take measures to keep their services affordable. The dentist I go to upgrades his equipment and technology regularly, and that costs money....sometimes a lot of money. What irks me about dentistry, is the increasingly worthlessness of dental insurance. It seems like most policies cover little more than a couple of yearly cleanings, and routine fillings.

I am making an appt next week and getting ready to get in debt for it. Its enough to make you want to just get all pulled and be done with it.
Our insurance hasn't been any good in decades, dental or healthcare.

I agree. I don't have dental insurance. Unless I need something drastic done, he premiums are as much or exceed paying OOP.

I never bought dental insurance.

But I have to say, after 5 weeks in the hospital and total charge 1.7 million, I didn't pay a dime, because my total out of pocket of 1,500. had been met previously. Of course since Yale partners w/ my insurance, the payment was certainly less.

I'm happy with my medical insurance.
