Denture Cleaning ???

I have both upper and lower dentures for over 2 years now..

I have tried all kinds of pastes, tablets, bushes to clean these dentures. I still come up with some sort of white calcium buildup both between the teeth and along the "gums" when the dentures dry.

What do my fellow members use to keep your dentures clean?????

Polident tablets. I've had lower dentures for 10 years.. and now full dentures for about a year now. I have not noticed calcium buildups. My Sister in Law puts a drop of bleach in the water every so often. Claims it brightens them up.

I use a mouthguard at night and I leave it sitting in a cup of hydrogen peroxide during the day and that keeps it clean and white. In the first few years, it began to look a nasty yellow which I'm assuming was from bacterial growth in spite of brushing it. Maybe that would work with dentures.

I have a short handled denture brush that I use. I don't know if they even make them any more. You have to hold the dentures carefully while brushing. I brush them over a sink full of water, and make sure that toilet lid is down! I keep my dentures in round the clock, except to brush them. I periodically drop them in a Polident bath to make myself feel good, but they never really seem to need it. Its interesting how your body changes. Years ago I had a lot of trouble with plaque build up on my lower. I sometimes had to take a knife to it. It gradually became less as I got older, and now, in my 80's is non-existent. I have had this set of dentures for fifty years. The inside of the lowers is discolored from coffee, but other than that, they are in perfect condition. My gums shrank over time, and the lower is pretty loose. I found E-Zo pads. They are pads that you form and insert into the denture. They are only supposed to be used for two weeks if you get a canker, but I have used them for at least forty years without the slightest problem. They make my denture fit perfectly, and beat the powders and pastes by miles. Not easy to find them in the stores. I buy them on-line now.

This is the way that I do my lowers now. I have been using a product called Cushion Grip (discontinued by the manufacturer crybaby.gif)..It has worked great!! I see Amazon has the EZO I will try this when the CG runs out..

Any other tips for cleaning ???

I have a partial and have not had that problem. I just use a generic form of polident denture cleaner. I see you got a lot of good tips. I will probably use them, too, when I get full dentures which I know I will need one day due to peridontal disease. Not sure how you spell that.
