Dermatitis

I've just been reading the merits of Lavender and Ginger for migraines and wonder if anybody knows of a way to ease the misery of dermatitis ?

Diagnosed in May, I found cortisone cream helpful but it's only a short term fix, after a particularly bad attack I am currently taking a four day course of steroid tablets and using a strong cortisone cream

I'd be interested to hear from fellow sufferers and welcome any advice

I am of the opinion that many skin problems are a result of eating something that you have a sensitivity to. I did self testing according to the book, The Virgin Diet, by JJ Virgin. It isn't easy to do and you have be dedicated to it because not only do you have to go a very restrictive diet, you also have to make judgements that aren't always black versus white. You basically have to educate yourself (read the book), eliminate everything that might be causing you a problem for a few weeks until you have no problems, and then introduce one of those things at a time while observing your condition(s). I believe I found I had breakouts on my skin associated with MSG and high fructose corn syrup.

Is the dermatitis localized in a particular area, or everywhere?

Hi Butterfly, it started all round my eyes a couple of months ago, cortisone cream cleared it but it returned as soon as I stopped using the cream, last week it started to spread all over my face and Monday a small patch appeared on my neck, it's clear at the moment thanks to the medication I'm taking but I'm dreading it returning

Obviously Ive given a lot of thought to what may be causing it, eliminating various products like cosmetics and household items and just hoping I can control it as the doctor told me it can break out at any time, I was hoping somebody may have advice on a natural remedy

Wren, I don't have any experience with dermatitis but I always like to use natural remedies as opposed to steroids and prescription drugs when I have a choice. I have had some rashes over the years from unknown causes that went away without seeing a doctor. I'm a big fan of Virgin Coconut Oil, internally and externally for skin health. I often take a spoonful a day, and smooth it on topically to soothe any dry or irritated areas.

I understand it's anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, etc. Here's a little info about using it for the skin. http://healthimpactnews.com/2012/coconut-oil-for-skin-health/

I also read that a lowered immune system and inflammation may be causes for dermatitis, also gut health and gluten intolerance (wheat). So a good quality Omega 3 fish oil, probiotics, turmeric/curcumin supplement can all be helpful internally too.

Of course if you're on any medications you always have to check for drug interactions when using vitamins or supplements, for example, fish oil may thin the blood so if on blood thinners it can't be used. Check with the doctor too if your unsure about anything. Good luck, I hope you can get some relief soon.

It's similar Camper and there are two different types, best to google it as it would take too long for me to explain here, looks like mine is allergy related though

Thanks for the advice SeaBreeze, I also dislike taking prescription drugs but would've probably swallowed arsenic if I thought it would help on Monday ! I already take cod liver oil each day but will give the Coconut Oil a try
