I LOVE Music and tried to take a nap so I would not miss this show- but I fell asleep soon after it started.:(

I did see Joni Mitchell ( 80 years old!) and Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs performing "Fast Car"- Fabulous! and I am so glad this was on early in the beginning of the show! They got a standing ovation! Tracy will turn 60 this March!

I was disappointed when I woke up, that I missed it all and they will probably re run it, but then again, I probably never heard of most of the young performers anyhow.

I guess I am sure geared to the "Oldies but Goodies" most of the time.
When my daughter gave me Tracy's first CD, I bet I played it 20 times that week!

She was honored last year at the CMA awards:

"Tracy Chapman made history Wednesday night at the 57th annual Country Music Association Awards.

The singer's 1988 song "Fast Car" -- turned into a massive country and pop hit this year in a cover version by country superstar Luke Combs -- was named song of the year at the 2023 CMA Awards, making Chapman the first Black songwriter to win in the category."

I did hear "Jelly Roll" won big last night and that is Great too! Luke Combs won too!
 

I watched it, and I didn't recognize very many artists or songs. I cried during the Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs performance. They were both smiling and so happy! I loved Joni Mitchell, that part was very well done. But, sad to say, Jelly Roll did not win for either of the 2 nominations he had. I love Jelly Roll.
 
I tuned in during a number and wondered who the singer was. Turned out to be Miley Cyrus. I guess it has been years since I last saw her. I had no idea she was so grown up. I'm so out of touch with the pop scene

You can watch many of the clips you missed online. I will listen to Joni Mitchell sing anything, even at age 80, before I will put up with Billie Eilish style of talk-singing. I have to mute the TV when she is on because I despise her "music" so very much. I started to wonder if she comes from some powerful family and that's why she is famous and yup, she has a successful actress mom and a freakin' member of Congress for an uncle.

And that is how the soup is made! We get the best singer/songwriters money and power can buy! But they cannot make me listen to her. I control the remote.
 
It was great to see/hear Tracy Chapman, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, and Joni Mitchell. I like Taylor Swift, I think she has a lot of courage in many ways, but I do not understand her mega-stardom. But I have never heard one of her whole albums, only her chart hits. Maybe if I listen to a whole album I will understand? IDK.

I wish rappers would stop tattooing their faces and necks. They are going to regret that when they get to 65. Look at Ice T. He's had a wonderful career as an actor. Could he have have done that with a bunch of face tattoos? Yes, they have make-up to cover those for actors, but then you look like a man wearing thick make-up.
 
Nobody really likes Joni Mitchell's music. We just say we do because it's the Canadian thing to do. Just like The Tragically Hip are an awful band, but most Canadians won't say it.

I actually had never heard of Taylor Swift until a few weeks ago... truth..
 
Why would you bother to watch such drivel. You (the fan who pays for this music by the way) have no say in the vote or who is chosen.
The Grammy awards are not fan voted.
They are voted by industry peers (musicians, producers, songwriters who are part of the recording academy).
You can get on your knees and pray that they voted for your fave. Because whatever happened is a done deal.

Music's Biggest Night was Ladies Night.

Taylor Swift won Album of the Year for Midnights on Sunday at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, capping a night where women ruled and a year for the ages for pop's biggest star.

Swift dominated 2023 with her Eras Tour concerts and movie and at one time had five albums in the Billboard Top 10 at the same time - the first living artist to do so. Her triumph tonight set the record for most career Album of the Year Grammys, with four.
She was tied for the mark with Paul Simon, Frank Sinatra and Stevie Wonder. And she's only 34.

Beezer, I'd say you're mistaken on this. I know a lot of people who like the recordings of Joni, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, The Band, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Bryan Adams, Michael Bublé, Bruce Cockburn, UHF, Chilliwack, and more. They've all toured a lot and have had fans outside of Canada too.

In the jazz field, don't forget Oscar Peterson and Moe Koffman, among others.

I didn't watch it but read an article about it in the middle of the night. What I remember of the article was that it's the best Grammys in 50 some years since it began. All women won the top categories.

Mylie Cyrus (I think I butchered that spelling) won her first Grammy. She thanked many people, then said, "I hope I didn't forget anyone but I may have forgotten my panties"...what?? Anyway, Taylor Swift won for best album and now has won more #1 Albums than Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Elvis, and the Beatles...what?? Oh, and Beyonce was snubbed.

I also love music, but have no interest at all in the Grammy's. Mainstream popular music has its place, but it's not something I put any value into. Same with the so called "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame", it's a complete nonsense, imo.
 
We seldom watch Awards shows or America's got talent stuff like that.
3 - 4 minutes on YouTube videos and done & move on.
