Did not feel well, spent the day in bed.

Here’s the thing..I never do that. I don’t nap, very seldom get sick, typically feel pretty good other than some stiffness from arthritis if I haven’t moved in a while.

This was just weird, for me. I didn’t have any specific symptoms, other than a bone deep weariness. I felt like so weighed a thousand pounds. Ate nothing but a piece of toast. Drank water and carrot juice. (My go-to juice, the only kind I like though I love whole fruits and vegetables)

I slept pretty much the entire day. I got up twice, briefly, and still felt wretched so I went back to bed. I stayed up for a couple hours around supper time, watched a bit of TV with Ron, but I could hardly keep my eyes open so I went back to bed and slept like a log the entire night. That was shocking too because Ron and I both figured I’d have trouble given that I’d slept the entire day.

I figured I was coming down with something. Figured I’d wake up with specific symptoms. But no. This morning, I feel fine. A little shaky because I essentially haven’t eaten in 24 hours, but the weariness is gone. I’m back to normal, at least so far. Bustling around doing all the things, playing catch-up from yesterday.

So….what the hell WAS that??? Have any of you experienced anything similar?

I had a day last year that started out that same way. I had a home Covid test that I used, as the symptoms were similar from what I had read and bingo, it came back positive. I called my doctor, and he called in some medication for me. My wife picked up the pills which I took for 5 days, as I recall. The symptoms never got any worse and were completely gone after I took the medication. Really was not a bid deal at all, just like a light touch of the flu. I never get sick, so it was a surprise, but I knew right away something was going on. My wife never got it, so that was good also...

Possibly the norovirus, a contagious virus
The symptoms include:
  • Stomach cramps or pain.
  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Fever.
  • Headache.
  • General malaise, or fatigue.
24 hours usually.

@Timewise 60+ @Nathan I forgot to mention in the original post that I tested myself. It was negative.

@Disgustedman well I certainly had some of those symptoms, but no vomiting, diarrhea, or fever. All the rest though. The virus went through my daughter’s entire family last week, and every one of them had all those symptoms. Classic. I suppose I could have caught it, but if so my bout of it wasn’t typical.

Agree! I think it ‘might’ be extra difficult for people with A type personalities since they are constantly so busy and expect so much of themselves.
Well that’s certainly true of me. My productivity standards for myself are very high. I’m a doer and don’t stop, just push through whatever physical issues I have typically. It would make sense that my body might eventually call TIME OUT and force me to just stop and recoup.

Kind of similar. A couple of months ago, I thought I had a UTI from the swimming pool. My symptoms were vague, and the tests inconclusive.

A couple of weeks later, in the middle of the day, I suddenly felt like I couldn't do anything at all. I went to bed, slept for a couple of hours, then woke up and vomited. Then I gradually felt better.

Absolutely! The unusual nap was your body’s way of communicating to you that it had reached its limits. Becky said it best, ‘listen to your body.’ But for the record, I’m terrible at listening to my body so am constantly in learning mode with ‘pacing myself.’

I'm similar. Everyone around me could be sick in bed for days, and I might have a slight headache for a couple of hours. So it can be hard to tell when I have a virus or whatever.

Sounds like you might have had a version of what they all had.

Yes, that does happen to me occasionally. Something will just grab a hold of me for at least 24hrs...no more than 48.
No vomiting or other flu symptoms.

I notice that if I don't drink enough water I'll feel worn out and worn down also.

Then, I'm back to normal.

Sometimes we just don't feel good. Maybe you were exposed to something and your body fought it off. You probably have a good immune system from all that carrot juice. I'm going to go buy some! 😊
Glad you feel better!

I feel that way sometimes. If it only lasts a day I figure it's just my body needing a break. If it lasts longer than that I may get a little concerned. Glad you got back to normal so quickly.

Yup, been there done that... Your body just let you know that you were bone tired and it weighed in your soul. You've done the right thing. Sleep it off and then you're right as rain.

My mind never shuts off, daughter's the same. So most days, it's go, go, go. Then, we'll settle in to watch a film, shut off the tablets and blam we're fast asleep, waking up two hours later. That's pretty regular since May last year.

In my teens and young adult days. I'd go to bed on Friday night after watching MTV videos and wake up Sunday afternoon. Then get between 7-8 hours during school or work week.

No worries, you were just exhausted mate!

Had a very queasy stomach a week ago. Almost threw up, but didn't. Tired for a few days and no appetite. And then night sweat one night and the next day I was better. In early December I had a bad night cough that lasted a week. In January I had a different stomach bug. And my kids and their families have had one thing after another.

We were discussing all the sickness this winter and proposed that it could be the result of all the isolation and mask wearing in 2021 and 2022 that resulted in lack of exposure to bugs and resulting lack of natural immunity. There sure is a lot going around!

Happy that whatever it was……left you as fast as it came.
