Never did the stroll but back when I was a kid I could darn near do the twist better than Chubby Checker.

Yes. I was about 12 years old, living in Kuwait when an American girl came out to visit her father for the summer break. She invited several of us Brits over to her house for a pyjama party and taught us how to do 'The Stroll' to Fats Domino singing 'Walking to New Orleans.' Happy days.

Our high school put in a Sock Hop in my freshman year (complete with a live band) and I danced the stroll at that.

We did the boogaloo....not the new boogaloo, the hip-hop street dance, and not the bugalú of Latin soul music, I'm talkin bout the boogaloo of the early 70s....2 jerks left, 2 jerks right while you mash potatoes left, mash potatoes right (and look like a jerk, mashing taters all night).

Nowadays it's called The Charleston Stroll.

It's danced at all the popular vintage festivals.
