Did You Ever Long For An Outside Job?

When the weather was nice outside, of course. But I just looked outside and it's getting dark and beginning to snow and a construction crew is milling and paving one of our side streets. The mail man is late but out there in the same conditions. I changed my mind.

Yes, I have longed for an outside job. I used to sit in an office with no windows and was surprised by whatever the weather had done by the end of the day. I guess that is why I love working outside in the yard now.

I used to do repos for a large G.M. leasing company here in Toronto in the period from 1998 to around 2010. I was their go to guy when a customer stopped paying for their vehicle. They would send me a fax after the account was 60 days behind, including all the details about the car and the customer. It usually took me a couple of days to run down the person, and usually the car was with them. I had duplicate keys, so once I found the car, I would start it and drive it a couple of blocks, park it and walk back to get my car, then call my tow truck guy to tow it back to the dealer. My motto was " no recovery, no invoice " so they only paid for success. My average invoice was $450 to $700, depending on how many times I had to go out looking for it, or if I had to go out of the Toronto area.

I recently got a call from the current President of that same leasing company, asking if I would like to come back to work for them ? I said no. Thanks but no thanks. I don't want to go out at 4 AM looking for cars, anymore. JimB.

I had an outside job for a number of years. I did outside sales, driving to customers' businesses to show them new products and take orders. When the weather was nice, I didn't mind it, but when the weather was foul, I didn't like it. Driving around all day, getting in and out of my car and in and out of buildings, when it's 95° in the shade and all day when it's freezing cold in rain or snow, can pluck your nerves. If it was a bad snow storm, I wouldn't be able to make my rounds. Other than that, the show must go on. I was expected to be there.

Yes, I have always longed for an outside job. I did have a couple.

One outdoor job was delivering junk mail in Ottawa -- winter, summer, and rain. When asked what my favorite job was, that was my answer, until I became self-employed. Unfortunately, the junk mail job was casual (not every day) and very low paid.

When I was self-employed, my only complaint was that I was stuck indoors.

I had the best blue collar outside job anyone would want or at least until I got a little older & cold weather became a factor in a decision to bid on a 1st. line supervisor position. As a journeyman mechanic working on heavy equipment in the field with no direct supervision life was good. It was those 0 degree days with wind chill bringing the temp to 40 below that convinced me that being indoors was a better choice.

Had an indoor / outdoor job, charged with fixing whatever needed fixing 24/7. I spent many an evening on the roof of a jail, in the dark, in the freezing rain or snow, trying to fix a malfunctioning hot water boiler or heating~cooling unit, whose control circuits were designed and installed by some underpaid amateur meth tweaker wannabe HVAC engineer. I miss that...not!

No
I've pretty much had 'em all
Fun when I was young

Once kicked upstairs I'd have a yearning from time to time, but a midday round of golf on the back nine took care of that

I worked for a period of a few years at a horse farm. Even though I was in a barn much of the time, it consisted of going in and out all day. Spending time in an indoor arena but it wasn't completely indoor since it did not have walls. Just a roof. I liked that job a lot and I think it was my last job.
