Did you ever play the harmonica?

The harmonica is the peoples’ instrument. It’s cheap and you don’t need lessons. You just mess with it until you know where the notes are. That’s what I did as a kid. I can remember sitting on an old sawhorse out under our big apricot tree and picking out tunes.

My Dad had a harmonica that had a slide button on the end that altered the notes. He was pretty good at it. I never could figure it out. My wife bought me a small Hohner harmonica many years ago. I have it here and play it once in a while. It’s good lung exercise.

It’s a simple instrument, but played well it can be haunting.

I also had several harmonica's. I got pretty good...I liked to play the blues with it. Now this guy can really play.

My grandfather played the harmonica, and he gave me one of his. I didn't do so well with it. I did ok, but not nearly as good as Gramps.

He also played an accordion. He learned to play both when he was a kid, and he was really good at it.

I had some very nice harmonicas in my younger years and played them fairly well. When I was moving a few weeks ago, I found one of them, called a Horner Echo Harp. It is a c key on one side and a g key on the other. I got this one when I was still in high school.

No...because I hate the taste of metal it set all my nerves on edge.

The harmonica was an instrument that was very much played by my grandparents, my granny in particular would play it to entertain her friends at club outings...

I played the harmonica many years ago, for fun. Recently played with a group and one of them was a harmonica player. He had several harmonicas lined up in a case. Each one was for a different key.

In grade 2 & 3 we had to learn recorder
My parents loved weekends when I’d take time to practice.

"Played one" no.... Played *with* one... yes, I've done that a few times. It was always fun but I never knew what I was doing.

I have played around with one when I was little but never got serious about it. I was given one at my retirement party and started playing around with it again. Big difference is the internet... My youth lessons were from an Uncle and the town drunk... (he was better than my Uncle).

I still have my Hohner Blues Harps in c and d. Still stored in their plastic cases with instruction sheets. I haven't played them in at least 20 years. I quit playing music when my hearing started going and music didn't sound right anymore.

I Played Descant recorder at school.. but when my Daughter was little , I paid for lessons for her to learn guitar, and a range of recorders.. she ultimately mastered the Bass recorder, which was almost as big as her at 8 years old...but because she could play that, she was given the Lead Role as ''david'' in the Nativity play at school..
