Did you get social security back pay?

If you got the retroactive Social Security back pay and subsequent monthly increase, don’t forget to recalculate your tax withholding for 2025. It doesn’t look like we’ll be getting 100% tax free social security.

(This was for Federal government retirees and some State and local. If you were eligible, you would know by now.)

Yes, Spouse was under WEP and got a modest amount of back pay and a surprisingly large monthly increase. Good point on the tax w/h, although we got socked with big capital gains last year so are paying estimated 2025 payments, ugh.

Can't complain as it's only the 3rd time ever we've had to do the forward tax payments. Our CFP does a good job managing our portfolio for taxes but the investments just performed really well last year. One of those good news/bad news things, LOL!

Fortunately I wasn't expecting the tax-free SS idea to go through, so am not disappointed. Would have been nice, but that's life.
