Did you get that "URGENT" letter?

I'm getting tired of these letters. I got one. It was marked, URGENT. I opened it, and I could buy "funeral insurance". If I was between 55-85, and passed their test, I'd get the insurance. I think their "test" was being able to write a check.

To be honest, I haven't prepared for my "final expenses". I figure after a day, they're going to want to do something with me. I got more important things to worry about-like being dead.

I suppose if you are alone in this world with no one left to pay for your funeral expense no having made arrangements to cover all costs is the thing to do. Dead is dead and being buried or cremated at tax payer expense is a way to stick it to tax payers one last time. Well maybe not, cities probably budget the cost to bury indigent people.

But leaving family behind to try to decide about whatever assets or debts need to be taken care of is just plain wrong. Pre planning and pre paying having everything in place so all they have to do is show up is the kindest thing a person can do.

Just this past week, my wife and I got together with our next to the oldest daughter to discuss our "End of Life" wishes. We've been putting it off for a long time. She'll act as our "agent" (the word used on the form) and carry out our wishes if the doctor thinks that we are beyond the point of making a rational decision. The forms will be distributed to our doctors and three other children. This week, we'll be ordering our stone and the cemetery guy said that it could be placed at any time - -the dates to be etched later. Somehow that seems kind of creepy to me but it's one more thing out of the way. FWIW we will be the last of a dozen and a half or so family members to fill out the burial plot which had the first burial in 1926. My grand-parents, parents, some aunts and uncles, and cousins make up the rest of the lot.

We're going to pre-pay for our cremation and service (our choice) and put aside funds for our daughter to hold a private (family only)memorial service at a local dining place. Now the only thing left that will be our responsibility is dying. Hopefully that can be put off for awhile.:D

Made and paid for my cremation service a long time. Kids know to scatter my ashes over the ocean. One of my daughters objected saying "we would rather you have a burial than a cremation so we can visit you". I said "hell you don't come see me now so I know you wouldn't come see me in death". That settled that. Visit me now as I will be busy in heaven after I die.

I put those letters in the recycle bag.

No. I'm not going to make the state pay for me. I have a will, and funds. but I do not want a funeral, with the viewing, coffin, etc. If there are some, who want to console my loved ones, that's what their front door and phone are for.

No, but I got that urgent update to Windows 10 from Microsoft, and my Surface Book is now totally locked!
