Did You Know That........?

Situs inversus is a congenital condition in which the major visceral organs are reversed or mirrored from their normal positions. Although cardiac problems are more common, many people with situs inversus have no medical symptoms or complications resulting from the condition, and until the advent of modern medicine, it was usually undiagnosed.

Situs inversus is found in about 0.01%[1] of the population, or about 1 person in 10,000. In the most common situation, situs inversus totalis, it involves complete transposition (right to left reversal) of all of the abdominal organs. The heart is not in its usual position in the left chest, but is on the right, a condition known as dextrocardia (literally, "right-hearted"). Because the relationship between the organs is not changed, most people with situs inversus have no medical symptoms or complications.

Did you know that;

Deer deliver their newborns in the strangest of places

Residents will find them and be concerned about a newborn deer on their lawn, in their garden, under the azaleas, etc.
Most call animal control because they think the fawn is in peril and Mom is nowhere to be found.
Well, Mom is actually off feeding and helping to keep predators away.
Those who call ask what they should do for the fawn ... Leave it alone, do not touch, move or attempt to feed it.

Here's the scoop.
Deer are NOT like horses. They do not have their legs under them immediately and need time to rest after birth. Horses get up and go that's the sign of a healthy horse.
A healthy fawn will curl up, nap most of the day and move their heads.
They have no scent and predators cannot find them unless humans interfere.
Mom leaves during the day for 2 primary reasons: to feed, and to keep her scent a distance from the fawn.
Mom will come back (unless something tragic happens to her), but don't expect her until dusk and certainly don't expect her if humans are hovering around.
If you are fortunate enough to have the gift of a fawn please enjoy the experience, respect Mother Nature and let the Mom do what comes naturally.
She will move the fawn daily so you may see it in different locations.

It's true!! well, at least in most people. Bring your barefoot up over your knee and measure your toes from your inner wrist and your heel will land right at your elbow...
I'm not a contortionist so I used a tape measurer instead. Measuring areas as per your instructions, my forearm is about 3/4" longer. :D

Many moons ago I used to walk up the hill across the road from me, over a ways, and back down; it was a mile or so long and all heavy woods. There were trails and logging roads I walked on.

One spring day I was coming downhill on a logging road that had ruts in it. At the very last moment I looked down and there was a baby fawn down in the rut, and in another second I would have stepped right on it.

Knowing the ways of deer I just looked at it briefly, saw that it was alive and well and that Mama was probably not far away, and continued with my walk.

Did you know that the germs in your mouth are similar to the spirochete that causes syphilis? I know this because we state DIS had to learn to do "darkfields", a specialized microscopic test for a quick, definitive syphilis diagnosis. There were a couple of darkfield scopes in state health department field offices and the DIS would take the scope to the doctor's office. The sample to be tested was taken from the patient's lesion. We practiced how to darkfields by taking samples from our mouths.

Maybe that's what Dionne Warwick was trying to warn us about. :)

I just remembered a good one I read about a few years ago. (May or may not be fact, but it's funny).

Ever wonder where the word "S-h-i-t" comes from? It's an acronym. It stands for "Ship High In Transit."
Certain types of manure used to be transported (as everything was back then) by ship. In dry form, it weighs a lot less, but once water (at sea) hit it, it not only became heavier, but the process of fermentation began, and one of the by products is methane gas . . . and as the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen. Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern . . . BOOOOM! Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was discovered what was happening. After that the bundles of manure where always stamped with the term S.H.I.T on them which meant to the sailors to “Ship High In Transit.” In other words high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this volatile cargo and start the production of methane.

You were right when you said this may not be true.

Taylor Muhl is her own twin. She has chimerism, which means her cells fused with her fraternal twin’s in the womb. Her body has 2 sets of DNA, 2 immune systems, and 2 bloodstreams. This has plagued her with autoimmune issues, as her immune system is constantly trying to fight off her twin sister’s cells.
