In the Sixth Grade we would all march into Assembly singing the following lyrics:
"I'd like to be the sort of man the flag can boast about
I'd like to be the sort of man it cannot live without
I'd like to be the sort of man who really is American
Who is American"
"With head erect and shoulders square
Clean minded fellow, just and fair
Who all men picture when they see
The Glorious Banner of the Free!
The Glorious Banner of the Free"
It was from singing this at 11 that made me wish I were born in Sweden. I was just gearing up for Vietnam I guess.
