Dilbert Comic Strip Creator in the Soup Over Supposed Racist Rant

Thank you for that, it helped put the comments in context. Lately, I've tried to find the source of these cancellations because we usually just get a sound bite followed by a string of companies anxious to distance themselves before they go down the drain with the person who's in trouble.

All the news outlets are calling his remarks a racist "rant" or "tirade," and I can't find a single thing by him that sounded angry, his tone is more ironic or sarcastic.
You're welcome.

Yes, and unfortunately most people don't take the time to listen to what he said. They quickly jump on the 'he's racist' bandwagon and agree that he should be 'cancelled'. It is frightening how quickly someone's life can be trashed. Perhaps this is why there is so little pushback against some of the crazy ideas out there today - most people can't afford to lose their job. He said, "I discovered that the price of free speech is really high and there are only a few people willing to pay it".

I did like his idea of making reparations through greatly improved education, because he feels that nothing else would make black lives better, or correct systemic racism more, than really good schools in all the inner cities.

Yes, I agree - lack of education is a huge problem.

From the video transcript:
"everybody who has ever succeeded, forget about race or anything, everybody's (sic) ever succeeded did it the same way ... there's like five things you gotta get right"

Stay out of jail

Stay off of drugs and alcohol

Don't have a family before you can afford, don't be a single parent - stay together if you can.

Focus on learning - a school or a vocation.

Character - show up on time ,tell the truth ... that stuff

He notes that getting access to good education is the main problem that politicians should be trying to solve - the rest is up to the individual.

We need to stop telling kids they are victims. We need to stop lowering the standards - they don't need lower standards - they need a better education.

It's an attempt to fight racism with another type of racism and two wrongs just never make a right. Instead it just drives us further apart.

Perhaps that is their goal.

Systemic racism is evident in our world, and needs to be addressed immediately. I am glad the Adams finally voiced his take on this complex and unsolvable war of racism. I hope others take the initiative to put their careers in jeopardy to cause an uproar about something that no amount of rhetoric is going to change. Every human is worth the same no matter their ethnicity or race. Hiding behind your skin color has got to stop, but I am not sure it will before we run out of water, or climate disasters and migration doesn't make the problem worse.

For centuries, we’ve been assisting African Americans, Native Americans, Vietnamese people, and Iraqis and have never been thanked once."

I've read his comics and he has a unique sense of humor. The punch line is not always evident and you almost have to go around the bend to get what he's saying. Sometimes it's so far around the bend, that I don't get it. I'm thinking he didn't intend to be racist and it was just one of those times. You could never take his humor at face value.

My error, he's north of 75 million. I'm fairly sure he's not going to lose sleep over this. Funny how I'm not mad at his comments nor supporting them.

We used to just let people rant and rave, never worrying about what they said. Now it's pitchforks and torches. "We'll take away his ability to make money"

Yeah, he's got enough to have long invested and reaping the benefits. So "Cancel Culture" isn't going to hurt his wallet, or him.
Cancel culture hurts everyone - how can anything constructive occur if there is no discussion.

So many people have accused him of racism - but how many came to that conclusion based on what someone else said. If you only listen to agitprop, how do you know if you are hearing the truth?

It is like hearing only the prosecution's side of a trial and then deciding whether someone is guilty or innocent.

I've always thought that he was an engineer making fun of clueless managers, which was part of his appeal. I could definitely relate. But after reading the Wikipedia entry on him, it turns out, that's not the case. He's actually an MBA making fun of managers!

He's definitely a bit different, which is reflected in his comic strip. I watched part of the interview with him that was posted above and it made me wonder if he's a bit autistic.

True, he was responding to the Rasmussen poll which asked "Is it ok to be white?" 47% said "No"

Well if you asked whites if it's ok to be black, and they said "No" then you know whose a white supremacists, you'd not want to be around them, as they're a "Hate Group"

Well, what are those 47% then?

That was actually a racist poll. What exactly were they trying to accomplish by asking that question? They knew what the results would be. All they were doing was providing something for conservatives to get outraged over.

I would say they were wrong too. Anyone who thinks it is acceptable to judge someone based on skin color is wrong - that includes whites, blacks, and every other color.

Racism isn't a 'white' only crime and as another poster pointed out, replacing racism with racism isn't going to help.

My take on the problem in the United States regarding race?

There's no 'old money' in the black community as they originated from slavery. The upshot? There is a disproportionate number of African Americans in the penal system....backlash and resentment follows...which is probably a good chunk of the reason why half of black Americans feel it is 'not okay to be white'. It gets deeper of course, but I feel I'm kinda touching on the main lightning rod regarding this issue.

My 2 cents...

I think what the news outlets should be talking about is that 48% of black people think it's either not okay to be white or they are unsure if it's okay to be white. That's a whole lot of anti-white feeling and they should be asking what to do about it. Some media have been pushing that anti-white idea hard for the last few years, CBS and NPR in particular. It's an attempt to fight racism with another type of racism and two wrongs just never make a right. Instead it just drives us further apart.
It does not surprise me that you would align yourself with Scott Adams and that instead you see it as a problem with the companies who are trying to distance themselves from a racist. Those companies didn't make Adams go off on a racist rant.

Adams' racist view is all too common.
