Dining inside or on a patio.

Doesn't matter as long as there are no cats around. People let their cats do anything. Not around my food.
When my cat was little, she always wanted to try the food humans made too. But later I trained her really well. Now she just quietly lies there and watches me eat. Even if I let her sit on my lap while I’m eating, she still won’t reach her paw into my plate🥰🥰

We're in CA so yeah, outside dining is HUGE everywhere. And in summer it can be lovely, especially as older restaurants (and homes) lack A/C.

But I prefer to dine indoors. Never was fond of ants, bees, wasps, horseflies (the big black kind that BITE) and mosquitoes, no matter how good the food was.

There's only a few restaurants where I actually prefer dining outside. These days sometimes it's just because I loathe the loud music restaurants play where you have to yell across the table to hear one another!

My favorite view restaurant is Auberge du Soleil, Rutherford (Napa Valley). Excellent food and even better service. But that patio - lunch on a nice day is stunning, both gastronomically and visually! This view is westwards; Sonoma County and the Pacific Ocean are behind the Sonoma mountains.

There are a couple restaurants we like to eat outside at in the winter in California. Both have a sea of overlapping umbrellas (the sun is hot here) and are in behind the building hideaway settings. They are relaxing and the food at both are top notch. One of the restaurants has a twin a few miles away and the outdoor seating is on the sidewalk of a busy road. Traffic is mere feet away including large trucks. Same great food but we eat inside when going there which is almost never.

This is the entrance to the kitchen of our favorite one. It is broken up into la bunch of small fenced off areas so it seems very private even when crowded. There are flowers on every table and hummingbirds come feast on them while you are eating. There is always a wait for a table.

I prefer eating inside. There were at least two occasions in my life where we ate outside and paid the price.
Once in Australia, where these squirrels attacked us. I jumped up so quickly when I realized they were coming at us, aiming for our feet. Another instance in Clearwater, Florida, we sat on the outside patio, enjoying the breeze and the view of the water, and these birds swooped down on us. They came out of nowhere. The waitress kept telling us to shoo them away. Apparently, it was a common occurrence. Never again.

I’ve never understood having a pergola for a restaurant. It looks great and impractical. The huge patio of one of the popular restaurants was always full. There was nowhere for everyone to go when there was a rainstorm. We quit going there.

The only place I don't like to eat outside.. are the Greek islands because of the hundreds.. literally probably thousands of feral cats, and they're everywhere jumping on the tables *ugh*...
Under these circumstances my wife and me would dine outside. We couldn't resist to pet them. If we notice cats we are melting away.
