Dish washing questions.

Do you prefer to wash your dishes in the sink, or in a dish washer? Do you buy the grocery store brand dish detergent, dollar store brand, or the expensive stuff? When you hand wash your dishes , do you use a towel to dry them, or air dry them. Do you hand wash dishes after every meal, or wash a whole days worth at one time? If you use a dishwasher, do you empty it after the wash, or you take dishes out as needed? Are you performing the same way your mom washed her dishes? Finally, I saw on Youtube that in the States, they rinse dishes, after washing with soap, but in the UK, they don't rinse the dishes after cleaning with soap. Is that true?
Inquiring minds want to know.:)

Old-fashioned hand-washing all the way for me, Fuzzy!

Quicker, love the relaxing benefit of hand-washing, provides me with time to reflect on the days happenings and ponder my next move, and it reminds me of growing up, where I forever helped my mom wash and dry dishes by-hand.

Love all things traditional.

I prefer the dishwasher-
Saves water
Saves hot water
Cleans better
Kitchen is cleaner faster

If hand washing I let air-dry
Use good soap

I use DAWN. 🦆🦆🦆

I wash my dishes by hand several times a day.

I dry my kitchen knives by hand and the cast iron pans over a lit burner. I still turn the other cooking pots bottom side up on the stove as a throwback to the days when the stove had a pilot light. I let the rest of the everyday dishes air dry.

I prefer a dishwasher...however I have no space for a dishwasher in this house so I hand wash my dishes once a day unless it's need more often, but generally once a day because it's only me here most of the time .

I always let them air dry then put them all away once they have. I always polsih the cutlery with a tea-towel

I use the quality most popular brand of Dish soap... *fairy*...

My house came with a dishwasher. I've never used it; I only store plastic bags in it. I prefer washing dishes in the sink.
If I'm not going to wash them right away, I'll leave them under water until I get to them later.
Sometimes I'll dry them & sometimes I let them dry in the rack.
I like Dawn. It smells nice.

We've always had a dishwasher, but our current one is by far the best. When we re-modelled our kitchen and bought a new AGA rangemaster cooker, it came with the offer of a dishwasher. It was larger than we had planned for, so I had to alter a cupboard to make room. We use whatever branded dishwasher tablets are on offer but prefer 'Finish'.

Some things, like knives, we wash by hand as the dishwasher would damage the handles.

In the camper van, we wash the dishes by hand.

My husband has his system and I’m not going to argue with any of it. Dishes go in the dishwasher after the meals. Things that need hand washing are saved until the end of the day. They’re never left overnight, no matter how tired he is. No helpers allowed. The dishwasher is emptied as soon as it’s finished.

Always buy a quality dishwashing detergent. You just have to use more of the cheap stuff.

Dawn dishwashing soap. I wash small, everyday batches of dishes in the sink and let them air dry. If I'm doing a cooking/baking marathon to freeze, (or this time of year canning), I use the dishwasher.

When we owned our home we remodeled the the entire kitchen. We always used the Dishwasher. We bought an expensive Bosch Dishwasher. Ran super quiet and cleaned squeaky clean. Now that we are living in a Retirement Complex we have a cheap Frigidaire Dishwasher that sound like an old washing machine. 🤣 We clean the dishes in the sink the old fashion way now.

I use very few dishes. I wash after use and once a week put in dishwasher and run. It just makes me feel better knowing they are sanitized. If we eat at my house during the Holidays my daughter brings really nice paper plates which get thrown away. I insist on using my good stainless and good glasses. They go into dishwasher as soon as the meal is over. One thing I have discovered is that the Walmart brand dry detergent works great in my dishwasher. So I don't buy the expensive brands. One reason might be is that my dishes are not really dirty when I use the dishwasher once a week.

Handwashing and drying all the time. I'd let them drip dry but I know I'll be the one trudging out to the kitchen later on in the evening to put the dishes away and I'm sure not going to let them sit there until morning.
I do try to wash and dry them as I'm cooking.

My kids can't understand why I don't have a dishwasher. A few years back when my son remodeled the kitchen he wanted to put one in. I told him he can make one cabinet the size needed for a dishwasher if he wants but I want shelving inside and that's what he did.
When I'm 6 feet under he can rip it out and put the dishwasher in.

I use Palmolive dish detergent and Dawn for tough jobs.

Like @Aunt Marg I find it relaxing to do the dishes.
After a holiday I like to take a shower, get comfortable and as she said, "reflect on the day." Also gives me a chance to pick at the leftovers. lol

Hand washing in hot water (I need gloves) but if hubby does them he doesn't use gloves. Currently using only Mrs Meyers dish washing soap. Rinse with hot water and dried by tea towel. Usually only breakfast and supper dishes done. Will get a dishwasher when kitchen is renovated - sometime next year I hope.

I don't have a dishwasher, with the few dishes I have always wash with warm water& Dawn liquid.
I set them on the rack to dry off, then use dishtowel to wipe off excess water if any

We just replaced all our kitchen appliances about 10 days ago... including the dishwasher. We use the dishwasher for most of our dishwashing. With just the two of us, we rinse them off before putting them in the dishwasher.
The people who sold us our new dishwasher said to never use the "pods" in it. The owners manuals recommends the pods. The more I read, the appliance people are correct. So, in this one my wife is using the liquid dishwasher soap.
We don't let the dishwasher go through a drying cycle. Run it late in the evening, on the days we run it, and let it air dry overnight. I usually empty the dishwasher early a.m. since I'm up and can do that much for the wife.

"I saw on Youtube that in the States, they rinse dishes, after washing with soap, but in the UK, they don't rinse the dishes after cleaning with soap. Is that true?"

I think so. I went and stayed with a friend who lives in the southern part of England for several weeks back in 2015. She watched me wash the dishes one evening and was intrigued that I rinsed them afterward. She said "That's rather ingenious, isn't it?" pip pip
