Dishes, glasses, pots, pans etc.

I've never had a dishwasher. I don't mind washing dishes by hand, but a dishwasher would hide the dirty dishes from view. In this era of open concept layouts, I don't want to be looking at a messy kitchen while sitting in the living room.

Now I have a small "dirty dish bin" in a corner of my kitchen, where I can't see it from the living room.

I'm sure dishwashers come with their own set of problems though. I'd probably hate the noise.

A shared part of kitchen activity.
A combination
I'm the dishwasher for whatever needs done by hand.
Dishwasher for everything that doesn't.
I do rinse whatever goes in the dishwasher because it's a dishwasher not a garbage disposal unit.

I have a dishpan in the cupboard under the sink......

I live alone and just keep filling it and don’t run it until it’s full. It’s more sanitary as the water gets much hotter. When there were 5 of us and I didn’t have one it was awful. My husband was cheap but agreed that we needed one as soon as we could afford one.

Never had or wanted a dishwasher….as I gather, everyone who uses them ,washes them first anyway, what a waste of time……most of my friends just use them as a storage cupboard, being to lazy to empty them…..I had a very good dishwasher once, but sadly he can’t do it anymore …..

The appliance gurus tell us that modern major kitchen machines can be expected to last ten years. My ten year old dishwasher proved that to be true when it died last week. I am in the process of buying a new one right now. Sure I could revert to the hand wash days, but I would miss the rompin' stompin' sounds of an electric dishwasher doing its thing in the kitchen.

It depends. Everyday dishes, glasses, silverware, and smaller pots and lids go into the dishwasher. Fine china, crystal glassware, sterling silver, and large pots and skillets get washed by hand. On average, I run my dishwasher two times a week, three if I'm doing a lot of cooking. My dishwasher is whisper-quiet. 🤫
