When I want a "feel good" moment, I either play old R&R records or watch an old 1930's romance movie.
They all seem to happen so fast, all are so sweet and simple and all have happy endings.
They are so corny; it relaxes your mind like slipping into a dream.

The boy drives up beside a pretty girl and says, "Hop in!" "I'll give you a ride!"
She says, "OK!"
He says "You're beautiful!"
She blushes.
He says, "I think I love you."
She says, "I think I love you too!"
He says, "Will you marry me?"
She says, "OK."
He reaches in his pocket and pulls out an engagement ring. He slips it on her finger.
She says, "Gee! This is swell!"
He says, "Let's not wait! Let's get married right away. Tonight!!"
She says, "Ok! That will be swell!"
They drive off in his new, shiny Packard convertible and live happily ever after!
Oh! (forgot) He asks what her name is. "Mary". It's always Mary!

So, What do YOU like when you switch off the news to send you back to la-la land?
 

Yes, Know them well! These are excellent!
Some are mindless and you already know the outcome and some are brilliant!
"The Fountainhead", "The Man who could work miracles", "The Animal Kingdom". There's a bunch of them!
I enjoy these old black and white movies better than the new movies!

There are some classics that have "worn well" and I still like watching them. Off the top of my head, in no particular order:
  • "The Philadelphia Story" - Cary Grant, Kathryn Hepburn, James Stewart
  • "The Lady Eve" - Barbara Stanwyck, Henry Fonda
  • "Broadway Melody of 1940" - Fred Astaire, Eleanor Powell
  • "Singin' In The Rain" - Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, Donald O'Connor
  • "Forty Guns" - Barbara Stanwyck, Barry Miller
  • "How to Marry A Millionaire" - Lauren Bacall, Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable
  • "All About Eve" - Bette Davis, Anne Baxter (also noted for being Marilyn Monroe's first appearance, or at least her first speaking role, I believe)
  • "Charade" - Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn
  • "Robin and Marian" - Sean Connery, Audrey Hepburn, Robert Shaw
  • "To Catch A Thief" - Cary Grant, Grace Kelly
I've probably forgotten several, LOL.

Those lines may seem 'corny' to some, Gaer, but hey, now that I know them, just watch all the girls swoon. šŸ˜Š
 
Oh for sure, some of those old movies were a bit corny but that's ok. Nothing wrong with a little bit of nice "old fashioned" romance. For my 2 cents, there is WAY too much violence in the modern movies and there is WAY too much violence on the news and the newspapers. Not all women are whores nor are all men rapists. There is too much of those mean streets of La/New York and not enough intelligent conversation between a lady and a man.
 
I like them really old, anything after about 1950 is too modern for me.

We love watching the oldies.

I usually choose an actor I like, then look for all their movies.
Although this thread is about romance movies, some of the romances are dramas and others are comedies, and others
are musicals, but the actors I like are:

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers (love their dancing!) - light and fluffy and good feelings!
Deanna Durbin (love her voice) - a fine actress and singer
Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy (beautiful singing pair!)
Bob Hope and Bing Crosby - always competing for Dorothy Lamour's love in the "Road To" movies.
Cary Grant - all his movies are romantic!
Esther Williams (love her swimming!) - she played a few movies with Ricardo Montalban. Very romantic!

There are many more, but I'll leave it at that! :)

I was just about to mention how much I loved the old Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy movies.
And "San Fransisco" with McDonald, Clark Gable, and Spenser Tracy.
And seeing how they reenacted the earthquake was really interesting.

I didn't know that A Tree Grows in Brooklyn had been made into a movie. It is one of my favorite books, since I was a child. I even deign to read it again every few years. I don't usually read books more than once. So many books, so little time.

I hope I can find the movie. Thank you for mentioning it. I don't usually like movies, but this one I am looking forward to.
 
Really varies for me, by mood and amount of time i have available. If short on time i watch YouTube animal clips and compilation videos of people being good to each other or to animals.

Sometimes i want to be able to just laugh out loud. Not a big fan of 'romance' in real life. But (well maybe because of how i feel about romance) i always get a laugh out of more modern 'Rom-Com' movies, suspending disbelief about the happy ending as many do for sci-fi movie elements.

The older movies i like tend to be ones with some point or meaning tho it may have lighter moments. Anything with Tracy/Hepburn from 'Woman of the Year' to 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner'. But many of Bette Davis's are eminently rewatchable: Now, Voyager; Dark Victory, The Letter, All About Eve, and a little known 1956 film called 'Storm Center'.

Also really enjoy lots of Jimmy Stewart movies and Gregory Peck.

Yes, I agree fantasy stuff is dumb! As issues of the world become more intense,
and serious, I guess I need a release and a "lightening up". I need a little "silliness".
It's kind of a relaxation for the mind.
