Do any of you participate in the Publishing Clearing House sweepstakes?

I have been receiving these for years. Sometimes I fill them out, other times they go in the garbage. Do you fill them out? do you know of anyone who has won and do you think they really mean what they say about not needing to place an order to win? Do you fill them out online also? Sometimes I think I'm just wasting a stamp. Might even be better to throw the price of the stamp in the slot machine at a casino. Perhaps the odds are better if I were to do that.

I haven't seen a mailing from them in close to 20 years; I never responded. I didn't know they still operated. No, I never heard of anyone winning but I do recall someone at work saying there was something on TV showing them dumping sacks of envelopes that had the word "No" showing through the hole on the back of the envelope to indicate subscriptions were not wanted.

I've never participated because the details they require are an invasion of my privacy. I do buy a lottery ticket occasionally though.

I sent one in via the mail once, but it was a huge PITA. I also made the mistake of registering online once. The old paper mail version was so complicated with all the stickers go here and stickers go there blah blah blah and the online version is even worse. They keep sending emails that say you need to do one more thing before your registration is complete, so you do it, then next day you get another one.

Big scam anyway.

In general it's good to question anything by mail or online that's asking for your information because there's a good chance it's more about marketing and mining and selling your information than anything else. Be wary, know the user agreement details, and remember that once you've given away your privacy, it's very hard to get it back. Research how Google, Facebook, and other companies use your data by searching for phrases like "how does xxx use my data?" Research articles about how to get your data private, safe and secure both online and with companies you do business with.

When I was younger I used to get them in the mail a lot and fill them out hoping to win. After years I stopped bothering, and stopped receiving them too. Never knew anyone who won.

I had the same experience. I used to fill out the stuff they sent and once they sent me an envelope with part of a check showing through the window with "pay to the order of" and I almost had a heart attack but when I opened it, it was a fake check. I gave up after that. I've known a few people who played for years and never won anything either.

I do play the lottery every week and I do win that for small amounts, but Publisher's Clearing House? Not anymore.
