Read post #9 in this thread.Another idea would be to meet them in a safe location to swap merchandise for money. Like a local McDonald’s or even outside a police station. I don’t remember where I read it but that is what was suggested when selling things online is to meet the person in a local area.
No but it only takes one.Not EVERYONE is a homicidal maniac. I play the odds.
"I am not young and beautiful, what would be the reason anyone would want to assault me?" Deb, you wouldn't think a younger man would s***ally assault an 83 year old woman but it has happened. And she wasn't the first elderly person who was a victim to that.I've been doing this for years and only had one difficult person, but he didn't touch me, he was just disappointed in what I had to offer and became obstreperous because he felt I wasted his time. I am not young and beautiful, what would be the reason anyone would want to assault me? If you're thinking robbery, my money is well hidden and I seldom keep more than a few hundred around which is peanuts these days.
Anyway, that person that asked about bank info agreed to do a cash transaction and set up an appointment. An hour before, I received an email saying she couldn't make it. At least he let me know, which most don't.
I don't believe in living in fear but I do pay attention to my "spidey-sense" and take precautions. @OneEyedDiva is correct in stating that seniors can be victims of assault too so we can't get complacent and think it won't happen to us because we're older. I don't mistrust everybody but I keep my "antenna" up when dealing with strangers. You just never know. But like you, I won't let fear dictate my life. Why are people these days so frightened of others? Are there more kooks, or are the kooks just getting more sensationalized media coverage?
I only have 3 fears - spiders, heights and spending money.

My neighborhoos is safe - upper middle-income residents. But not everyone shopping locally online is from my community. It is wonderful that you live in a safe neighborhood.
