Do Telemarketers Bother you all the time ?

Seems like the only phone calls I get are from those *&$#@ telemarketers ! It's usually a hang up or a recorded message ... no real people to yell at ! LOL
We still have an answering machine with a "old fashioned" land line .... when the machine picks up - they hang up. Aggravating !

The do not call list is a waste of time ,so I signed up for "nomorobo" - they have a data base of numbers from telemarketers - when they call my phone , it rings once and is transferred to a recording that says I'm not accepting their call. It's great !!! But of course ...... there's shady people that can always get around anything. When I block this certain pesty telemarketing number , they always call from the same number with a few digits changed. I can't win !

Do you have these annoying pests bothering you ,too ?

All the time. I have caller ID on the phones I am usually closest to and if it's a number I don't know (even if it's local) I do not answer. You can check what people are saying about a certain number by entering it at 800notes.com

I don't have a landline, I only answer the cell if I recognize the number.

Two or three times a month a nuisance call trips the answering machine and leaves a message or just dead air.

Haven't had and unwanted phone call since 2010 when I installed my current filtering device. Only 39 numbers in the whole world, and that includes all cell phones, can call my number!

I know when it's a scam call, because they don't answer right away. I usually give them a piece of my mind, but listen to all of it
because sometimes they give you the option of getting off their list.

The no call registry has always worked well for our family. And if someone gets through anyway, I just hang up. Never say one word or they'll know they can get a response out of you. If someone asks you if you are having a nice day don't say "yes" because they can tape that and edit it in somewhere else to make it sound like you are saying yes to whatever they are selling.
The Do Not Call Registry accepts registrations from both cell phones and land lines. To register by telephone, call 1-888-382-1222 (TTY: 1-866-290-4236). You must call from the phone number that you want to register. To register online (donotcall.gov), you will have to respond to a confirmation email.

All the time. Drives me crazy also. I can only block 20 numbers on my phone. It helps a little, after a few months I unblock them and add new ones hoping the old ones realized they are blocked and move on to some other poor soul. I tried to do it online but the web site wanted so much info about the number I wanted blocked it wasn't worth it. They wanted to know what the call was about,if I had tried to contact them about not calling, how many times have they called and the exact time and date. I also noticed they call right during dinner hour. I don't know if that is just a coincidence.

I report each one to https://www.donotcall.gov/ since I registered there on the do not call list. I sleep when I can due to pain issues, so the last thing I need is a phone ringing when I'm sleeping. I am down to about 1/week. If a legitimate political call comes through, I usually ask "what are you wearing"? There is along pause on their end and they usually hang up..... I only get concerned if they tell me....:what1:

I'd like to know more about that filtering device of yours. My cell phone has a feature that will only allow calls from my contacts, but my landline doesn't. I would love to have that on my landline.

Not much since I dropped my landline seven years ago. I am starting to get a call now and again on my cellphone, though. I signed up for the cellphone no-call list and we'll see how well that works.

What I hate is the "PLEASE HOLD FOR AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE!" Yeah, right, really important....

Got rid of our landline years ago over this and when someone calls on my cell, if I don't know the number, don't bother answering, if a message isn't left, the number goes on my blocked list.

I look forward to getting a LIVE call from a telemarketer. I always tell the caller that I'm not the homeowner, but if they'll wait a second, I'll get him.

If they agree to wait, then I just walk away and never return to the phone! Let them wait...this way it wastes THEIR time!

I have a cellular telephone, but for 12 years, I've kept it in the center console of my car, for calling the Highway Patrol to report an accident.

I don't even know the number of my cell phone, 'cause I never use it!

Land Lines Forever!

I have OnStar on my car and only a few people know that number so I get few, if any calls on it.
It's a hands free phone and controlled by satellite. They always know where my car is, which is good in case it's stolen.

It's better than a cell phone because it can find me wherever I am. Unless I'm in a tunnel. LOL

I ported my landline # to my old cell phone to save money and keep the # that many people have. I didn't know how many telemarketer calls I got until I retired.
If I'm bored, I answer the call and let them read their script. Then I act interested and have them repeat it slowly, so I can 'write it down'. I figure that every minute I keep them on the line is 1 or 2 other people they aren't bothering. If I can't understand them, I say "Oh, thanks for calling with this offer! Gimme a minute to get a pencil and paper." Then I lay the phone next to my keyboard or computer speaker...
Or... I say, "Oh, you need to talk to Bob, hang on..." I lay the phone down and yell "HEY BOB, THE PHONE'S FOR YOU! GET OFF YOUR *(&##^( ASS AND COME ANSWER THE *&(&###)! PHONE!!!" Then I leave the phone alone.

I got rid of the landline and switched to a cell phone. If I don't recognize the # I don't answer the call. Have not set up the message part yet. If I am unsure of the # I will check it out on anywho.com reverse lookup. I delete if from the call log.

I'm on the do not call list and lots of calls get through. I don't answer them unless I recognize the number, but the ringing is an annoyance.

What has to happen is that you report them! You can bet that these Godless telemarketers do everything they can to avoid having their grotesque personas laid bare to the light of day.... Even if the agency has limited resources, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. SQUEAK! as loud as you can!
:fingerscrossed:

That's my goal. With the cellphone I use an app that I can block junk calls with. My landline has no such capability, as Frontier[formerly Verizon] does not allow blocking or blacklisting calls.

The National Do Not Call list does not seem to be working for me, either the telemarketers are using some loophole, or are simply ignoring the Do Not Call registry.

Same here. I've been on that do not call list ever since it first came out. It doesn't help at all. When I first got on the list I dutifully reported every spam call I got. To no avail. It was a waste of time. Again I do not understand why landlines can't have a blocking feature like cell phones do. That's the obvious solution.

Yes, at least 6 calls every day. I would dump the landline in a heartbeat, but my wife clings to it, for some reason...

I heard that. I'd dump our landline in a heartbeat if it weren't for my wife. But she won't give up her landline until they pry her cold dead fingers from around it.

Yes, and it drives me nuts! I'm seriously considering removing my land line for that very reason.

You still get them on a cell phone. It's robotic dialing. That's how they get your number if you answer. Don't pick up for any reason if you can see the number and you don't recognize it. If you pick up they know they have a connection to a real phone.

The price of cell phones now are in line with landlines. I don't have a landline anymore and I can create a rejection list so when they phone back the call does not go through.
