Do they still allow citizens to build Bon Fires to celebrate Guy Fawkes night?

Where I lived we would start building the Bonfire two weeks before the actual night.
There was a tall hill in the middle of the town called, "Spion Kop"
This demanded an impressive Bonfire and we delivered.
My home town was situated at the bottom the Queen River Valley, so was sounded by hills. 360 degrees.
On the night there would be at least 20 Bonfires burning on the periphery with the Spion Kop fire in the middle. Really was a great sight.
The practice was stopped in the early 80's after controls were placed on the purchase of Firecrackers.

Yep it's all over the place tonight ...as well as last night, and of course the night before which was Guy Fawkes night..

The Fireworks have been far louder and more prolific tonight

This was one of the many in London on Friday night.. you can't see the bonfire but there was one...

I've become somewhat disapproving of fireworks these days.

Yes they are beautiful but do more harm than good.

New Delhi (CNN)Air quality in India's capital dipped to 'hazardous' levels Friday after the festival of Diwali was celebrated with the usual widespread use of fireworks, defying a citywide ban.

According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), most locations in Delhi were recording an AQI above 500 on Friday morning, with the index maxing out at 999 in a few locations.

The whole Guy Fawkes night thing petered out here in the 70s when fireworks were banned for the general public. But I remember having a bonfire in the backyard when I was a kid and I loved 'cracker night' as we called it back then.

Now it seems that every organisation, (churches, football clubs, schools, etc.) have fireworks at every 'event'. I'm no longer a big fan of fireworks.

I wish they'd ban it here....
