Do Ya Ever Have one of Those Days....

when everything you start to do ends up hitting a brick wall or leads to ten other things before you can get one little task accomplished, and at the end of the day you end up tired, frustrated and nothing accomplished...GRRR...

Today, for example..went to muck (TWH's favorite word) out the chicken coop/cat house. Got that task accomplished easily enough, until I went to take down the end of the fence so I could get through to dump the wheelbarrow. Metal post holding the end up came out of the ground, went in search of a hammer and spool of wire to repair it..searched for 20 minutes for the wire..never found it..need to go to town to buy new stuff. Went back to the chicken coop to fix the latch on the door...but first searched for 15 minutes for a large screw, ahh found one.

Got the rechargeable drill out went to the chicken coop...battery dead...went back to the shed got the spare battery...dead also. Couldn't find the charger...grouched at Mr. O for never having anything organized..he found charger, put the battery on it. (Take note here!)

Okay, moving right along, changed gears and walked to the top of the hill to re-attach a No Trespassing sign that had fallen off the tree...no sign...searched around and remembered I had put it in the truck so it wouldn't blow away...back down the hill to get the sign, back up the hill to attach it...Whew..tired now.

Opened the well shed door and found some kind of critter had been chewing on the foam board insulation...into the house to get some sticky traps...phone rings...go back out to the shed, forgot sticky traps...Hubby now wants to go to town...back up the hill to open the gate....Punch drunk now from lack of oxygen...off to town..got the wire to fix the fence. Back home and ready to fix the fence...Couldn't find wire cutters, totally pissed off now, all the cats are hiding and the dogs are standing with their tails tucked down hard.

Oh well..back to drilling the hole for the screw that started this whole thing..the battery should be charged by now...back in the shed to get battery...did Mr. O plug it in after he put the battery on the charger...NO!(Insert all the swear words you can think of here).

The cats by now have all skedaddled down to the creek and the dogs ears are now pinned back..chickens dug a hole by the fence and were all huddled up together, no doubt murmuring about the psychotic woman in the chicken coop...hubby sheepishly plugging in the battery charger....does that give you the mood of the place by now!

Sum total of day's accomplishments, by 5 pm got everything done except fixing the door, and fixing the fence...so it took me 8 hours to clean the chicken coop and hang up a sign...Tomorrow's list will include the door and fence repair, again.. I should have those tasks completed by oh, say...next week sometime.

:lofl: Whoops, sorry meant, awwww.:( Makes me feel better about getting bugger all done here after several hours of shifting and sorting stuff. It's taken me all day, in short increments, to accomplish about 20 minutes worth of results.

Those baaaad days are special OG, makes us appreciate the gooduns. ... really though, commiserations. ... take chocolate for it, and booze helps too.

Oh i sympathise with you OG, i have those type of days quite often i start a job and get distracted by another job then another and i end up getting stuff all done, i'm sure they have cut the hours in a day down as there are never enough these days.
I go up to the bedroom and forget what i came up there for so have to go back to the kitchen and eventually i remember what i went there for.
And as Di said a good dose of chocolate helps

Oh dear.....but tomorrow is another day. Think of that; after the chocolate and a glass of red!

Thanks for the chocolate and alcohol tips ladies..great mnds think alike. They're staples around here, and believe me I am fully stocked and ready for the day!

Many more days like that one though, and I'm in danger of becoming a fat alcoholic with diabetes:playful:

re:went to muck (TWH's favorite word) out the chicken coop/cat house.

MUCK ??? What is the heck is muck or should I give a.....oh never mind.

Ozarkgal, I feel your pain and have had some days like that too. Including the dog and cat staying away from the crazy angry woman, lol. When I do set out to do things, and a wrench is thrown in the works every time I turn around, I just try to remember that I'm retired now and not on any particular time schedule...that helps a bit. Sounds like you had a Murphy's Law day there. :love_heart:

Now see - if you lived in the city you wouldn't HAVE all those problems! ;)

In explaining the concept of the Tao to my students I often use an example much like your day - one of those where nothing seems to go right. That would be a day that my students are not "in the Tao".

Yet there are other days when nothing seems to go wrong, everything flows along smoothly and you can lift your horse with one hand to vacuum beneath him with the other. Those are the days when you're "in the Tao".

When things are consistently going wrong for me and it seems to take the strength of Hercules just to lift my coffee mug and the dexterity of a Cirque de Soleil performer not to spill it, I've found that it's often to my advantage to back up, take a quick meditation break and start all over. More often than not this seems to break my losing streak.

It's as if the phonograph needle keeps skipping - you just have to pick it up and put it in its proper place.

Good advice here. I would do all of the above. Then you would feel serene, realigned with the universe, full of chocolate with a gentle buzz (or more) good way to end a day like that or restart it. Hope you have a better more productive day tomorrow.:)

I'm sorry, but I'm smiling at your day!!! Your description was so well written that I felt right there with you. Well, you made it to 5 o'clock so call it a day and sit back with a drink and laugh about it - giving some puppy hugs might make your feel better too! Tomorrow you'll have a better day.
