Do you absolutely have to have dessert after dinner?

I usually don't make dessert after dinner because my hubby doesn't miss it and is happy with his 8pm snack which is usually ice cream..
I have to have something sweet after dinner and it doesn't matter how full I am. I can't even get through doing the dishes without popping a piece of candy or a gluten free cookie and in a pinch a small spoonful of peanut butter and some jelly will do the trick.
When company comes or my kids I always have dessert.
Some people want dessert but want to wait a half hour or so. Not me, I'm ready to dive in at a moments notice.
Do you have that overpowering urge for something sweet after dinner?

When I order out or delivery I sometimes get a special dessert. After dinner at home I'll often have some yogurt with berries and nuts and that's my desert. I also will make cookies or a cake once in awhile then have some of that after dinner but not often.

You and I would make for great company, Ruth! :giggle:

Aside from having a sweet-tooth for all things pies and pastries, I crave something sweet after supper, and I directly attribute that to my upbringing.

My mom always made sure there was something sweet for the offering after supper was complete, whether that be a cake, a pie, squares, cookies, you name it, and when mom had nothing homemade to offer, there was ice cream and we indulged.

This is my kind of 'treat' for after supper. A huge tray of goodies. OK, so I'm fibbing. The only time there is going to be a pastry of some sort is when we celebrate certain events, i.e. wedding anniversary, Valentine's Day, Christmas, etc. Or we'll 'graze' on something that we received as a gift... for months. I keep it refrigerated.

You, Ruth and I could indulge in some yummy desserts. lol My kind of gals.

My wife and I have a cooked meal every evening. It's always made from fresh produce, nothing precooked with added preservatives, nor do we eat takeaways. No dessert ever. A pound of sugar can last six months or more. If there's a craving for a snack, there's plenty of fresh fruit in the fruit bowl.

Only have a real dessert if company is over or its a holiday meal. Sometimes I will have a twinkie and milk for supper. Breakfast is my best meal and after that I graze or snack on fruit or half a sandwich. Cooler days call for tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. Dessert is not an everyday thing.
