Do you always answer a question with a question?

Always? No. Direct clear questions get direct clear answers from me. But, frankly, a lot of people don't know how to to ask clear questions. They leave too much room for the variables involved.
And when it comes to human behaviors, preferences in food, entertainment, relationships there are a lot of variables.

that honestly drives me nuts..My now X husband was the one who was guilty of this all the time.. never a straight answer to anything....
I can understand that. Tho the variation that bugs me more is when you ask what someone want for dinner, or where to go for a meal and they say "You choose" but then shoot down every suggestion.

I understand it allows the person to avoid answering a potentially uncomfortable or incriminating question directly.
Something to hide?
When it comes to those kinds of questions, unless it regards an actual legal issue, i have no problem either answering honestly or telling them it is not their business. Because not every tiny detail of everyone's life is for public consumption.

I usually don't answer with a question. I either answer it or I say I don't want to discuss that.
If someone asks me a question and I need more information, I will ask a question before answering.
Yeah, that's important. Someone asks if you'd like to go to Mars, you gotta know how you're going to get there. Spaceship? Dropkicked? Slingshot?

And when you think about it, a lot of times we don't choose our preferences. I didn't choose not to like certain foods, books, poems, music, colors, design, etc. There is no reason that I don't like some stuff and that I love others. Take dogs, the bigger and fluffier/scruffier the better. Little or smooth haired dogs, hey I love them all. But I prefer dogs like Spinoni Italianos and Wire-Haired Pointing Griffons. (Gotta sneak dogs in somehow)

@Bretrick
Did you intend or realize that this topic would have so many strongly humorous responses?

Oh, wait a minute....... I actually intended to ask that, but it turned into yet another one. 😵‍💫🙄

😁
There you go, always answering a question with a question. :)
I knew I would get the responses I got.
Knowing the public will always answer in the expected way. :D
