I agree. I don't believe in them. That doesn't mean they don't exist. Similarly, I don't believe in an afterlife, but I could certainly be wrong. Unfortunately, there's only one way I'm going to find out.

Oh and one: At a time when I was TERRIBLE SAD and holding back tears because I was working in a bank in a little cubicle.
The ladies there knew what happened and were compassionate.
I felt a hand on my shoulder and knew it was one of them trying to console me so I said "thank you" and turned around
to see a lady in a green calico flowered dress with pink and yellow roses (from the 30's) standing there.
it was her hand on my shoulder! She WAS SO REAL! a brunette and her hair was the way they wore it in the 30's.
She disappeared in a second!

Have known many ghosts, disembodied spirits that can interact with human--tho in my experience haven't the capabilities as some Asian Cultures believe to physical harm a living person. They can of course cause the person to injure themselves in a panic. They are not the same as 'residual haunts' or 'apparitions'--which are like a recording of a frequent behavior or one that was done while in a high emotional state (the wailing, moaning spirits some talk of) RH's can not interact with us, the 'soul isn't really there just an echo some bit of their earthly life.
One of the most profound interactions i ever had with a ghost, despite having cleansed houses and sent spirits on their way to the light, was a series of talks with my deceased first husband. His love for our boys bound him here for a bit, but at first he was angry because he'd always argued there was a great nothingness after death, i argued the opposite--it was very upsetting for me to be proved right. His initial behavior was angry and i admonished him i would not tolerate him scaring the boys, to come back when ready to be calmer. It took a few months but he did and we had difficult but ultimately productive exchanges about issue i tried to get him to talk about before the last time i left him. Eventually he was ready to finish transitioning. There's more to that story but it brings up something i know many here don't believe in and i haven't the heart for that debate right now.
Our house was built in the 1860's, central homestead of a large multigenerational ranch/farm family, tho i don't know the whole history as people here aren't as anxious to tell newbies the histories of their homes as people in Southern communities often are. But i did learn some things.
We have 4+ acres of land and have left most of it wild. The first weeks here i often walked around the property discovering plant life, signs of wildlife. Almost every time, especially if in afternoon, i would feel like someone was walking a yard to my right, observing me. i didn't feel scared, i did feel like i was being sized up.
Then my insurance agent, who lived on this road in childhood told me about Mrs. H. the matriarch of the last long time family owner of the place. i learned she liked to walk the land too. She dressed in black in later years because she was widowed. Parents on the road sometimes led their children to believe that Mrs. H. was a Bruja, witch, as way of keeping them from wandering as far as the highway another 1/4 mile down our road. Rumor has it that she and male relatives actually exchanged non lethal gunfire with each other at times. But she also watched me cook and bake from scratch in a way that reminded me of my E. Indian first in-laws watching how i braided hair or cooked things. Only Mrs. H. felt even more as if she was sizing me up. She would not talk to me but i never felt anything hostile from her and over time she visited less, as if content the place in loving hands.
There's at least one other ghost, and we think one RH, which we've sort of tuned out but whenever we get a new cat or dog they react and we remember. 'Oh yeah that sickly, unhappy apparition that paces the west end of the house'.

I have had no personal experience of ghosts but have an open mind about the supernatural - there is so much we are yet to learn.

Na! Not this packer! The reason is that I have never seen one. If I did I would believe it but I haven't so I don't. No problem here though cause Hollywood believes in ghosts. They also believe in Satan, zombies, vampires, witches and fairies! Yup! Hollywood has it all figured out how to scare you and get your money watching bad movies. As for me, I'll be watching "Cannon" and "Death Valley Days" tonight. No zombies, no devils and no witches on my shows. Cannon is OK but he really needs to go on a diet!

I sure have seen ghosts. Perhaps because I live in an historic neighborhood. It's not unusual for me to see a ghost though I have not SEEN one for several years. But last week I was up at our local cemetery decorating my family's graves for the autumn season. As I was leaving grandma and grandpa's grave, I felt something tug at my ankle. I thought it was a tree root because there are a lot of them where my grandparents are buried. But it wasn't. I had taken my Mom with me to see the graves and when something tugged my ankle she was walking ahead of me and asked me what was wrong. I told her something had me by the ankle. Neither of us could see anything and it wasn't a tree root either. I felt it was a metaphysical experience.
It's very strange when things like this happen to you. It makes you more open to to the possibilities of such things. I was born with a twelfth house stellium in astrology so I think this makes me more sensitive to this kind of phenomena.

Since i joined in late July there have been at east two threads covering that topic one just touched on it as part of religious discussion, but the other focused on it.
The title was "What makes people want to believe in the afterlife?"

I believe people when they say they " see" things whatever they may be. However, one has to take into account their state of mind, their past history, their present circumstances. All of these things play on the mind and manifest, similar to what LSD users may report.
There are unexplained occurrences, yes, but science has proven why they happen etc and I am very science driven. Having said all that I am a great believer in face analysis. One with the gift for reading faces is indeed very useful in society.

I don't necessarily believe in ghosts, but visiting the Winchester House in San Jose, CA made me come quite close. One would have to look up the history. Crazy, guilt-ridden old lady who was heir to the Winchester fortune and kept adding rooms and stairways to nowhere to try to escape something. I must say that there are some rooms in the house that are very cold for no apparent reason.

I vaguely remember that so I looked it up and it's still going on. Britannica says it's an occult Hinduism practice for enhancing your Chakra, which I had to look up and is 7 "wheels" of different energy spots in your body...using crystal pyramids

I was very distraught in 1989 after a breakup and went to a psychic who did a Tarot reading. She told me I hard a "dark aura", which was no surprise. I asked her how long I would live and she told me until 73 y/o. I'm hoping she was wrong, since I just turned 64, but do legitimate psychics typically tell you when you will die? You seem to be experienced in this area so I wanted your input.
Prior to moving into a house, I took pictures inside the empty dwelling to get ideas for color schemes. The previous owner had been stricken unexpectedly in the house and apparently died on route to the hospital, all after being pronounced in good health by his doctor during a physical that day! Anyways, when my pictures were developed, one of them showed an orb, a glowing ball of light in the hallway. A camera lens effect, or a trick of light? Perhaps, but I’d never had a similar effect with that camera before or since...and while a friend of the sciences, I keep an open mind, and love spooky and paranormal things…
