Do you believe in prophets/prophesy?

Prophecies usually associated with religious supernaturalism warning of impending destruction or catastrophe unless godly demands for change are met. Bible talks about prophets and prophecy warnings for repentance otherwise death and destruction.

This year has especially been enlightening for me, seeing the world and religion much clearer than before. Coincidentally as I awake from my mental cloud other people are likewise leaving the church and religion as I have without fear of damnation.

Maybe end of times? It is difficult to accept the end of world when in my opinion the supernatural does not exist.

There's a difference between predictions and prophesies. Predictions are guesses usually based on some evidence. I can predict that
there will be major earthquakes in California and eventually the Yellowstone super volcano will erupt again. I just don't know when. But, prophesies imply some absolute knowledge of things that will come to pass. If this knowledge really exists, it means the future has already been decided. If it has already been decided, then that means there is no free will and we are essentially puppets on a string acting out a predetermined performance. That's hard for me to swallow.

No
prophecies just show what you're going to decide

Seems very few here give serious study to the biblical prophecies

How about Psychics ... I'm guessing most say NO! And I agree ... however comma ...

Had a very strange experience many years ago while reading the local fish wrapper at my mom's one Sunday afternoon while she was out visiting friends (Sunday's are great for that) and I shot over all alone to raid her refrigerator.

All was very quiet in moms house. No TV on, no music, no nothing, just dead silence. The gorgeous weather that Sunday was perfectly clear with not a cloud in the sky. It was middle of the day early afternoon.

Reading the paper I noticed there was an ad for a Psychic in New Jersey. Alrighty then ... bored and doubtful, I took a deep breath, relaxed and I internally silenced my mind to all thought ... except ... over and over and over like a mantra I slowly concentrated on the Psychics name and said call [mom's] number ... over ... and over ... and over ... and over ... and THE PHONE RANG !!!

Startled abruptly from my very relaxed but intense meditative state, I jumped to answer the phone AND ... There was only static on the line. Pure static. On a perfectly fine and clear middle of the day Sunday afternoon and out of the clear blue for no reason, the phone rings and there was static on the line and nothing else. Who the heck called? There were no problems with my mom's phone. I asked her later. Nope, no problems.

Was it the Psychic ... doubt it. Was it me willing the phone to ring ... wait, can anyone even do that? I will never know ... and don't try that stuff anymore :ROFLMAO: ... confusing and kinda scary it was, playing with things I didn't and don't understand.

But if prophecies show you what you are going to decide that means the choice has already been made so where does that leave ‘free will.’

Believing in prophecy takes away the action of free will?’

The choice has been made alright....by you

Not at all
It gives one a glimpse of what's coming
from the choices made

This discussion fringes on pseudo intellectualism

You guys have fun with it

I think it possible that some who don't believe in prophets/prophesy feel so because they are not knowingly affected by such as they go about their daily routines and so may not have room in their lives for that "nonsense". Or they've heard false prophets and false prophesies to the point of being dubious of all. Perhaps the same doubters don't believe in miracles either, unless one happens to them personally or they witness it first hand in others for example. Kind of sad that open minded innocence is often lost with maturity where there is little room in a materialistic and academic structured society for anything other than strict scientific reality. Perhaps.

well ya right in one way but not in another? - yes if we heed no warnings ; no pleas ; no strong advices? = then prophecies could/will occur. However if we head the 'prophets' of our times - you should know them all by now ; we should know them all by know David Attentborough etc and then add on the biblical tomes of prophecies ; some of which may have already occurred - then yes we heed the modern day ones as well as the ancients then disasters may not occur/will not occur ; whether predictive or prophetic in nature ??

If we can foresee our choices made and don’t like the outcome, since life ( the current moment ) is FLUX, we have the ability to change our mind , since we have ‘free will.’

Fate is what we see, destiny is what we do with our fate. Always choose L❤️VE, not fear!

If all life was predetermined then what would be the point of even trying?

Every day is filled with thousands of random events, and thousands of thoughts. Sometimes two similar thoughts/events occur in proximity to each other and we make a pattern out of it. Thinking you made the phone ring doesn't mean anything, However, if within 5 minutes of that incident you actually bent a spoon with your mind, that would be really something.
