I grew up drinking water from the tap or public drinking fountains - also from the hose. :cool: These days I use a Britta pitcher to filter my already filtered water. When leaving my house for a couple hours or more I bring along a Contigo type refillable water bottle. I only buy bottled water when at a sporting event or other places that don't permit personal water bottles.

When we have large parties we fill a 3 gallon beverage dispenser with water and have cups nearby with a magic marker for people to write their names. Yes, the cups are disposable plastic (which bothers me) but when we exhaust this supply we'll move to glass cups, of which I have plenty. We already use glass for smaller parties.

How do others manage this?
 

​Normally I do not, but since I have the guys here building my deck, I have bottled water on hand for them. I just gave them a bin to keep outside for the empties so I can return them for the deposit.
 

We have a salt water well so we have to buy cases of bottled water. We also used to have 5 gallon water jugs my husband would fill from a water dispensary in a town about 8 miles away. Now he uses 3 gallon jugs as they are easier for him or I to handle. We pay 25 cents a gallon for that water.
 
I used to buy bottled water until I learned that chemicals in the plastic bottle leech into the water. Now I don't buy bottled water or bottled fruit juice.
 
My well water has so damn much iron in it, I sell it to US Steel. I used to have a bunch of tanks to soften this and filter that. But most of that expensive "pure" water was going down the toilet. It was cheaper to get "store bought" water for drinking, and the iron with some water in it for the rest.

Same situation here. We do have a water softening system but it doesn`t work as well as it should. This water is so bad that the racks in the dishwasher have rusted through and keep breaking off. I can only imagine what it`s doing to the insides of the washing machine. We are moving right over the hil,less than a mile away,and the water is great-and there is no softening system on it. Even the lady right across the road from us says her water is great. We just lucked out here,I guess. Glad we just rent here-we are buying the new place and that was our first concern,that it have good water.
 
This time of year (hurricane season) I stockpile cases of bottled water in the garage. When a storm hits the Gulf all the store shelves are empty and I don't want to be without drinking water.

Our refrigerator has a good water filtration system so I typically drink water from that dispenser.
 
I mentioned above that I have bottled water on hand for the guys helping me build the deck. I forgot to add that for myself I have a Brita water Filter .
 
I use bottled water only for coffee & to keep by the bed. Also for company - most people like it.

I also have a "Zero Water Filter Pitcher." It's just a good, but the filters are pricey.
 
I don't buy bottled water. Water from my sinks is fine;I keep a cold jug in the frig.
I sometimes buy a few bottles for company and if they don't drink it I sip on it for a few days/nights.

Those big cases I see at the stores...no way.
 
I don't drink or buy bottled water. I fill up gallon pitchers of water and put them in the fridge to drink. Our water tastes pretty good and I add ice cubes to it after I pour it in a cup. I use 32 oz. cups to drink a lot of it!
 
I have never understood this obsession people seem to have about always drinking from disposable plastic water bottles in the last ten years or so. I have no desire. If I am out walking or biking, I always use a stainless steel water bottle like I have been doing for years.

Maybe the Arsenic is why it tastes better.

I don't have to worry about the risk of diabetes 'cuz I've already got it. No cancer (that I know of) yet, but...I'm 66 - there's still time.

Seriously, I don't drink bottled water because I think it's healthier; it just makes coffee taste better & I'm a coffee snob. And tap water in my city doesn't taste good - even after I had a complete copper re pipe & replacement of the supply line from the street to my house.
 
I stopped drinking sink water about thirty-five years ago. Used to have distilled water delivered, but then I started filling my glass bottles at a dispenser in Natural Grocers. I do use the small bottled waters, on jobs. On a hot day, I go through ten, in four hours. No bathroom breaks needed, as I sweat it out, completely. I don't like the taste of our sink water, but a Britta filter makes it usable for boiling noodles and such.

The corrosion from is caused by the softener, not the water. Soft water is corrosive. Good to hear that you're moving to a home with a better well.

I rarely buy bottled water ... very, very rarely. Only when circumstances make it necessary. The last time was over a year ago on my way to the airport. Pulled into a "Stop & Rob", bought a cheap bottle of water, emptied it onto the ground, carried the empty bottle through TSA security screening, then refilled it from the first drinking fountain. I refuse to pay stupid prices for airport bottled water.

I drink city tap water that is filtered untreated water from a local lake.

I saw a news clip a couple of weeks ago that people consume the equivalent of a credit card worth of plastic each week. The main source of the plastic was from plastic beverage bottles. The story made no claims that consuming microscopic amounts of plastic was harmful, just food for thought. :):playful::eek:nthego:

Mrs. Robinson, our water source, probably an underground river have a lot of salt in it. Most everyone on this side of our road for a few miles here has salt in their water. Some people have a truck deliver water to their cistern every so often. It's $100 a load I think.

About 20 or so years ago we had our water tested and the guy told us we have a lot of salt. I still have the paper showing how it was tested. Its just a couple feet behind me in my file cabinet if anyone is interested. I couldn't begin to explain it. This well is up by the road and about 350 ft deep. About 500 feet behind our house we have a well that is 720 ft deep and it doesn't have salt but it only brings up 15 or 20 gallons a day (and sometimes it's totally dry) so we usually don't use it. We have to use an electric pump to get it up out of the ground, then taken to the pressure tank and then another pump sends it to our house. A lot of electricity for so little water.
