Do you buy the name brands or store brands?

We buy a fair amount of "Great Value" store brands from the local WalMart....mostly household cleaning items, etc. When I was working, I made several trips to the WalMart headquarters in Bentonville, AK, and every morning the "Brand Name" salesmen would line up at the sales area, to sell their products to WalMart. Since WalMart bought in such huge quantities, the consumer price was always substantially lower....for the identical product....the Only difference being the Name on the product .

Sam's is all name brand..You can buy Sam's Brand Cola at Wally World but not at Sam's!!!

I'll buy mostly the name brands, especially if they happen to be on sale below their regular price. I'll buy a few house brands such as a flavored soda line that isn't available otherwise. House brand generic coffees I've found disappointing, and so am willing to pay more for the better quality name brands...

We buy both.

The advertising sure tries to make consumers think differently though. New, improved, 25% more.

Is it just me or have the portions/packing been getting smaller but not the prices?

I buy both. Certain products I buy name brands. I shop at Walmart and Aldi's and during nice weather, I shop at Topps too. I order my coffee from Amazon. I buy a certain brand of canned meats from Walmart online as they do not carry it in my store. It makes my cooking easier and quicker since I am cooking for one and it is good. I will try new brands to see how they are. Especially if they are less money.

It's not just you. These sneaks have been shrinking the product for some time now. Worse than that is the outright lie they spew, like telling me it's because the "consumer wants smaller". o_O Yeah, I really want that 6oz. size can of tuna to be 4 1/2 oz. of tuna slush (I swear they pack the water debris off the process floor), and I want to pay more for the honor of using that product. Don't even get me started on the latest size of a roll of toilet paper. :poop:

I buy store brands unless and until I've been disappointed with them, in which case I return to the name brand. Dawn dish soap and Skippy peanut butter, for instance.
I've tried every brand of Dish detergent on the market. There doesn't seem to be much difference.
The secret is hot water and let the dishes soak.
So for me. Whatever is on sale.
Dawn spends more money on advertising. That's what they wash the oil soaked ducks with.
People are attracted to animals being taken care of..

Very mixed, Walmart has good ice cream, Winn-Dixie is better for some other items, once in a while we go to Publix. Aldi not very often.
Many times the only apparent difference is the print on identical packages, and the price. If I can't tell any difference in flavor, I go for store brand.

I'm not a brand name snob, but I buy very little packaged stuff, so maybe that doesn't count? I buy cleaning items laundry stuff everywhere and paper napkins, and though I prefer Tide and Palmolive, I'm pretty adaptable when it comes to name brands vs store brands.

It depends on the product. If I can buy store brand or generic that's just as good, then I usually will. Some products though it doesn't go well. For example, the Special K Red Berries and flakes...do not buy the generic. I got one & it had maybe 4 teeny weenie pieces of strawberry in it.

I'm a name brand buyer (for the most part), quality, being at the top of my list.
