I once found my mother lying on the floor in her apartment and I assumed that she was doing exercises. So I cheerfully greeted her and began trying to converse. But after a while, I began to realize that she had actually fallen and was unable to get up.

BTW She had been offered a medic-alert gadget but had refused.
