Do you dress like your parents did at your age..?

My mum didn't live to be my age, she died at 39 in '73... so she was a young woman through the 60's.. but she didn't wear fashion clothes per se. She wore knee length skirts and dresses, albeit modern, but not fashionable.., she never wore trousers even though I'd often as a teenager tell her she should, that they were fashionable.. and she certainly never wore anything denim.
She'd got past carrying a handbag and had moved onto a shoulder bag by the early 70's..

The odd things is for the life of me ( she died when I was 18).. I cannot remember what shoes she wore... . I visualise her in my mind and see her in a particular blue skirt and top which was a favourite of hers, or in her favourite fitted mini check red coat, but her shoes are never in my mental picture.

So do you think you dress as your parent/s did when they were the age you are now ?

Another thing, my mother never wore jewellery except her wedding ring.. she didn't own any, except a small locket brooch which was bought from Canada for her by some relatives and she had it pinned to her best jacket..

My mother had short hair and would wear rollers in her hair or got to the hair salon on special occasions and get a perm.. which in those days pretty much meant a head of curls ... with a side fringe ( bangs)...I don't ever recall a time when my mother had her nails painted.. even when we girls got to be teens, she didn't want us to practice on her...she did however wear foundation, and lipstick & rouge as it was called then.. she would never dream of going out of the house without it

I have very few photos of my mum.. 3 or 4 at most... this photo is 58 years old .. taken in '64 , with my mum aged just 30.. holding my 18 month old sister ..the amusing thing is that the sister in this picture is now 60 years old this year and is the image of my mum in this photo

Mom was ever the lady, always in dresses or skirts & blouses .. even when having a picnic at the beach. In the 60's, she followed her female co-workers and started to wear pant-suits. She even wore a kaftan I gave her when she was in her 60's, near the end of her life.

I dressed a lot like Mom, wearing dresses or suits with skirts, until my mid-30's. Then, I started to wear jeans because I was a stay-at-home Mom, and it was more practical and casual.

Your mother was beautiful, @hollydolly, and what a classy lady. Your sister was beautiful too. Thanks for sharing! :)

No, my mother and I dressed nothing a like lol.
She wore the usual dresses and work attire while working in large offices. Then when she got order and retired and worked p/t she wore nice black slacks w/a pretty blouse and no bra lol. She always had on an undershirt or camisole of some kind though.

When she was may be 75 she bought her first pair of jeans.
I'm the jeans girl in the family. Every time as my mother would be hemming my new pair of jeans...she'd say 'another pair of jeans N....?

I did wear skirts and little dresses out dancing though.

My mother was a teacher..she wore prudish clothing..skirt below the knees..blouse button to the top…never ever wore pants..she was a true Lady In her appearance…I myself dressed well but not as severe..took me an hour to get ready for work..
nylons ..high heels…matching purse…2 piece suit. Skit and blazer or pants and blazer…changed clothes to run to corner store..today..heck a onesie is good enough..how this high and mighty has fallen:rolleyes:

My mom was a stay at home mom in the 50s she wore house dresses and always an apron. When she went out she wore dresses that were the style for the times but on the conservative side.. A little lipstick, Ponds face powder and just a touch of rouge,
In later years she wore no makeup, did wear pants but never jeans. At home she liked sweats and in the summer she wore pants just below the knee.

I wear conservative clothing now ,always pants. but I do like jeans. I never wear make up so I guess I do dress like my mom. I don't own any aprons though.

No, totally different. My mother always wore dresses, unless we were away at a resort for summer vacation. Then, she would wear slacks or occasionally, shorts. She had some nice suits also. Her shoes were ordinary pumps or oxfords most of the time. And she wouldn't go out of the house without her girdle and stockings on! It must have been a big deal just to run out for a quick errand!

Fur coats were very fashionable then. My mom had a Persian lamb coat; they couldn't afford mink or anything like that.

Sigh, this post makes me miss my mother even more. Mom would wear dresses when she was in her 20-30s and then started wearing pants with blouses. I can't remember her ever wearing a dress later in her life. I, on the other hand wore dresses/skirts/jackets and never wore pants to work.

No, not at all. I never saw my mother wearing trousers which I wear a lot. Now I think about it, she did a lot of knitting but I don't remember her wearing a jumper, only a cardigan.
In the past, women wore 'housedresses' while doing housework....and changed into smart clothes when they went out. None of this slobbing around in track suits!
