Do you drive a sedan?

I've always been a fan of sedans, but last summer my sedan was in the dealership for repairs and they loaned me a Mazda crossover for a few days. I'm not fond of that semi station wagon feel, but I fell in love with the car in spite of the fact that 80 percent of the population drives a crossover for reasons I don't understand. When I went back to get my sedan, I brought the title with me, and asked the sales manager if they would sell me that Mazda crossover.

He said it was not for sale, but he had others like it out in the lot. I said, "No, I want that car. I want to buy it today," but he said that's not their policy on loaners, and I went home. Two weeks later, the manager called me, and said, "Why don't you come in and we can talk about that Mazda crossover. I went down that afternoon and bought it on the spot.

I've got a Mazda Miata in my garage along with it. I loved that Miata, but this loaded crossover is a dream drive. I've driven the Miata maybe 200 miles in the last year. Any one looking for used Miata in tip top shape?
I had a 2006 Miata and loved it. I hated to part with it but it just wasn't practical if I needed to do any highway driving.

Re: Mazda crossovers, we had a '17 CX-5 and loved it. Then we traded for a '20 CX-30 because it was smaller. We now have a '23 CX-30. My car is '17 Audi A4 and Mazda reminded me of the Audi in its fit/finish. They are punching way above their weight for the price point.

The Mazdas have never had issues. My 6 year-old Audi, on the other hand, has needed numerous repairs. But I still love its looks and the way it drives so I'm willing to spend on it. I could live with the crossover, but I love the way the sedan handles.

Just when you see a parking space and go to pull in, there’s a Smart Car. That’s not what I call it when I see it there.

I have had 3 different SUVs, all were 2WD which is common when one lives in a warm climate. They did an excellent job of towing boats and small travel trailers.

Between my late wife and I, we owned 17 convertibles. Sedans are boring.

I bought my first Miata somewhere around 2010. It was used and may have been a 2006. They are excellent to handle and so well engineered. Then my Ford Focus hit 100,000, and I traded it and the Miata off for a Mazda 3, which was also surprisingly well engneered. A year later I bought another Miata, the one with the fancy body style, because I just couldn't do without it. I'd never owned Mazdas before. But then last year I traded the Mazda 3 for the Mazda CX5. I'm sold on them. But I'd been out of the car market for a long time, so I don't really know how they compare to Hondas or Toyotas these days. My last Toyota Pickup I drove till it had 350,000 miles on it. Never had it in the shop for anything major. But the new Mazdas have set a new base standard for me.

The meaning of sedan seems to be becoming more generic.

wikipedia - a passenger car in a three-box configuration with separate compartments for an engine, passengers, and cargo.

I looked at several definitions and they seemed less rigid.

I don’t know what classification a Honda Fit would be? Perhaps at least two. Has 4 doors, but a hatch too. Hatchback? Don’t know. I don’t think it is a particularly safe car. I have seen a few wrecked and they look like a crushed soda can. But oh, is it reliable, and great mpg. Its garage mate is a full sized 4x4 Ford pickup. Big everything except mpg - terrible! But I can haul trailers and whatever. That’s what it’s good for.

I used to love my Audi convertibles, but they became too impractical when I was taking a trip so I traded for a sedan. My sedan isn't boring, but I sure do miss driving a convertible with the top down. These were my Audi S5's in the good ole days!

I drive a Honda Fit. It is considered a hatchback. Funny how it looks small on the outside but feels big on the inside. I couldn't drive for 5 weeks with a broken arm and the guy who drove me around was 6' 6" with room to spare on top. Of course he had to move the seat back. Love my car!

Small world or what…i just test drove a CX-5 today. Liked it a lot.
Reading your post might put me over the edge & send me back down to the dealership tomorrow lol
Question for you: Did you purchase the paint protection option on any of your Mazda’s? (I was unaware that such an option even existed until today.)

@seadoug, I can understand you loving those convertibles. They all catch my attention but I always knew I’d never drive anything where my skin is exposed to the sun. Even still, I dream of having one when I see them.

Yes, small world. I would highly recommend the CX-5. As far as purchasing paint protection... no, never. There is really no reason to purchase paint protection since the clear coat on any modern car protects it against all the elements. Our Soul Red Crystal CX-30 still looked like new when we traded it after 3 years and multiple car washes.
