Do You Eat Fish On Fridays?

In my neck of the woods, it seems to have been customary to have a fish meal on Fridays. I still do sometimes but these days it's not fresh cooked fish, since I don't bother with that type of thing. Fish sticks, salmon burgers, imitation crab meat or tuna are good enough for me, lazy cook that I am. But fish meals back in the day would usually be my mother's fried whiting or maybe porgies. Up until a bit over a decade ago, I'd sometimes cook orange roughy and loved it when I could get my hands on some good, sweet crab legs.

Of course, Friday isn't necessarily the only day I eat fish. Is Friday fish day for you?

We weren’t Catholic but a fried fish dinner was the accepted payday treat in this area.

These days I try to eat fish in some form a couple of times each week.

My go to preparation for fish, shrimp, or scallops is the old Ritz cracker crumb and melted butter topping. 15-20 minutes in the toaster oven at 350 and dinner is served.

I also like the 60s recipe for fish fillets topped with Campbell’s cream of shrimp soup and buttered Ritz cracker crumb topping.

You reminded me Aunt Bea..I used to love to make scallops too. Haven't had them in a long time.

I never eat fish, except for tuna salad, and I never will. I do not like it.

We had fish on Fridays when I was a kid. I could never figure out why. My dad was a non-practicing Catholic, and my mom was Lutheran, and neither of them were religious. Meanwhile, all my Catholic friends, luckily, liked fish.

My mother used to make tuna w/Miracle Whip too. I've never heard of anyone else doing it.
What else did your mother put in it? Mine added chopped onions and sweet pickles. When I think about it being a fish salad, I wonder how I ever liked it. But I have always loved the way it tastes.

Gosh, I can't remember...may be just lemon.

Years later when she developed diabetes, she omitted the MW and just used lots of lemon and celery. And lettuce.

Not unless the cook is having a death wish. You can add kale & cilantro to the list.
