Do you ever shop at discount stores?

NYT - "The value-store chain Family Dollar was fined $41.7 million, the largest-ever financial criminal penalty in a food safety case, for distributing food, drugs, medical devices and cosmetics from a rat-infested warehouse, the Justice Department said.

On Tuesday, Family Dollar pleaded guilty in federal court in Little Rock, Ark., to one misdemeanor count of holding products in unsanitary conditions, causing them to become adulterated. The $41.675 million penalty is estimated to be the value of the products that were tainted when stored in unsanitary conditions, according to the plea agreement.

The distribution center in West Memphis, Ark., according to court documents, serviced 404 Family Dollar stores in six states: Alabama, Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas and Tennessee.

Family Dollar is a subsidiary of Dollar Tree, a rapidly growing retail giant that operates more than 16,000 stores across the United States and Canada."
Yep. Overrun with mice. Poop all over. I don't shop there.

I read that when they fumigated the place they got rid of 1,270 rats. Yeah...I'd consider that "unsanitary conditions".

I have no problem shopping at a dollar store. My all time favorite store was KMart- a discount store. I also shop places like Ollie's.
BTW. I happened to see online that there were brick & mortar stores that sold returned items from Amazon, etal. A company bought large lots of returns and shipped them to their local stores, which are pretty much everywhere. There's one just down the road from me. I keep meaning to stop, but I forget.
For the life of me, I can't remember the name of the stores. Sound familiar to anybody?

We have several discount salvage stores around. One has several lines of freezers full of stuff. Restaurant size packs of food... CHEAP....
Have gotten deals like a 10 pound box of bacon for $15, A large sealed package of kielbasa sausage for $10. Wife came home yesterday with T-Bones and Rib eyes for $2 a pound. We have bought roasts cheaper than hamburger.... and grind it ourselves.

We sometimes go to Dollar General, they are closer than the super-Wally and easier to find a parking place, and prices are comparable for many items.
I really like shopping at Aldi for produce, everything is fresh, and the prices are good; but it is not close to where we live, so we only shop there when we are going somewhere close to Aldi’s.
The Dollar General has some barely stocked shelves, and has discontinued some of the items we used to buy there. The Family Dollar closed down completely, but we seldom shopped there anyway. I think they changed store management, because it used to be better than it is now.

I miss KMart.

I regularly shop at Dollar General. They’re everywhere in our area. My mom eats a bowl of Honey Nut Cherrios every single morning. No exceptions , no substitutions.
I can’t afford Cheerios from the grocery ( or I just refuse to pay the price) I wait for a sale at Dollar General, go online and clip a digital coupon, and I can get a box for $3 - sometimes $2.50.
I buy paper products and cleaning supplies from there too. Some Dollar General stores are managed and stocked better than others. They seem to have trouble keeping good managers.

Also shop Aldi’s often . Big Lots, Ollie’s occasionally

Yes. Dollar store and 99 cent store are not my go to but I will check them out. Good for cheap things like scissors for cutting paper or opening things. I won't use my good fabric scissors for that.

Grocery Outlet.
