Do you exercise ? (on purpose? )

I'm such a couch potato , I have my butt-print in the cushion ! I have to get moving. As they say --> "Move it or Lose it !! "

I've been taking my dog to the dog park ....walking ... walking ... and walking ... he runs around the path 20 times compared to my ONE ... and I'm the one who gets exhausted ! LOL It's beautiful walking weather today ..in the 40's . I don't know what I'll do when it gets hot out ! Heat really affects me , I sweat ,get burned easily and I swear if I stay out too long , I'll melt !

So I'm asking , do you exercise ? If you live in a warm climate, does the heat affect you when you work/exercise outdoors?

I hate the heat and more so the humidity. People in New Jersey which is where I live are sick of the snow and cold weather. I'm dreading the heat. I seem to have a built in thermostat and when it gets above 72 degrees I'm miserable. It's like I hit a brick wall. We have central AC and it is of little value. It's ok if you sit perfectly still but just move around a bit and I'm dripping. I guess it cools the air but does nothing about the humidity.

In years long past, summer was my favorite time of the year, now my most dreaded. The wife and I don't take the heat well anymore and, here in Southern California, there's plenty of it to go around :(. I get exercise (sort of), I go from the bedroom to the kitchen (coffee), to the computer room, to the bathroom, then repeat fifty eleven times a day :). OK, I suppose it isn't the exercise to which you refer and I am your typical couch potato, so I guess my correct reply to your post is no, not on purpose. I'm thinking since my time here is temporary, I may as well spend it doing things I enjoy, rather than huffing, puffing, sweating and wondering why I'm doing this nonsense (exercise, healthy eating), when all I really want to do is have a T-Bone Steak and eggs and watch Downton Abbey reruns till the cows come home . Don...

I try to get some exercise, though I actively hate it. :D I wear a Fitbit which helps motivate me to get my steps in every day, and at least 4 times a week I follow a Leslie Sansone exercise video. (This allows me to exercise indoors!) We have a pool so in the summertime I get more exercise in general.

I don't exercise.

I walk to the shops, clean, go up and down three flights of stairs to the parking garage/laundry, etc...

When it gets hot I head out early and get my errands done before things heat up too much.

How about going to a nice air-conditioned mall for a brisk walk. Only in America do we drive to the mall so we can go for a walk, it just ain't right!:playful::eek:nthego:

The least exercise I get outside from house and yard work is walking the dog daily. I started going to the gym recently, but somehow I hurt my back last week and have had some pain bending or lifting things. I was bending over a lot and cleaning out the storage shed while lifting some heavy things, probably lifted and twisted improperly. Hoping to be back on track soon. Exercise is really good for body and mind, there's no doubt about it. I hate to exercise in the heat, I sweat easily and can't deal with hot weather, rather exercise indoors where it's cool. Most I'll do in summer these days is a brisk walk.

I do walk daily and do it in the early morning while it is still cool. I heard you burn more calories in the cold.

The only thing I do worry about is running into a coyote, I hope my running shoes allow me to run faster than the coyote.

Yes, I go either to the YMCA where I have a structured routine of running, elliptical machine, free weights, and machines. If I can't get to the gym I work out at home with a structured routine of Nordic Track cross-country skier, free weights, stationary bike and military-style body weight exercises. During the summer I run outside. I do it religiously.

I go outside

plenty of work (exercise)

chopping wood has been great cardio, and loosens the joints

building small structures has proven a help in what some get outa yoga type stuff

as far as exercising to exercise?

can't
seems mindless

I don't run

my vanity overrules running
observers have demonstrated complete failure in laughter restraint upon seeing me fight against myself when trying to 'run'

'an aged diseased yak, struggling on ice to elude wolves' has been pointed out to me as to my 'style'

therefore
I walk

Living in the boondocks and maintaining a large yard, harvesting dead trees for Winter firewood, and gardening in the Summer, etc., keeps me busy for several hours a day anytime the weather permits. I do keep a basic home gym in the basement, for use in the Winter. Most days, I burn every calorie I consume. I dropped 40 lbs, the first year or two we lived here, and have kept the weight off. I take a morning vitamin pill for a little extra insurance. Most years, the only time I go to the doctor is for the annual "wellness" visit. IMO, diet and exercise are a lot more effective...and cheaper...than living on Prescription Drugs, and filling the calendar with doctor visits.

I exercise frequently - yoga, weight lifting, and now karate. I prefer to exercise indoors so outdoor activity doesn't bother me. Keeping in shape is healthier and important to me. Doing nothing would not work for me.:eek:nthego:

I was so active when I was young. Honest exhaustion from a long, hard days work on the farm. I didn't think anything of walking or biking for miles. Moved into town when I entered high school and walked 3 miles to/from school, year round, in Wisc. Then I joined the scouts and did fast water canoeing and rafting, mountaineering / rappelling and hiked 50 miles in one day.
Then, I was in the Air Force. They have fitness requirements, but it's not all that strict.
My activeness has eroded over the years. And now that I'm retired, it's just mowing lawn and shoveling snow.
I would like to learn cross country skiing, but I'm afraid I'm not in good enough shape for it.
The senior center near me has a nice exercise room. I have the paperwork to enroll for their orientation to use it. I'll turn it in when I have an errand in that direction.

I really admire people who exercise. I fully agree with DonM above. BUT, I'm too lazy. I used to walk every morning when I got home from night shift, I was already awake and the morning air was great, so I just changed to exercise clothes and sneakers and off I went. Since I retired in late 2005 the only exercise I do is yard work, the rest of the time is cooking recipes or the TV and the computer. Two years ago I bought an exercise machine so I would not have the excuse about ''the weather, stray dogs, summer heat'', yet I've only used it 3 times. Will not get rid of it, because my ego refuses to give up the idea that ''someday'' I will start using it.

I don't go to the gym these days but I do try to take a walk everyday and once in awhile I will go to one of the city parks here for a hike. I feel much better physically and mentally whenever I do go outside for either activity. Once the summer heat comes though I do tend to hibernate more than I want to.

Yup, been going since I retired. It's just sometime I want to do and glad when it's over for the day. In the Summer, the missus and I have been going to the movies in the afternoon. It also gets hot up here in NorCal, the movies are a nice break from it.
