Do you follow an animal or a plant based diet?

I'm an omnivore. The only health issues I have are the results of serious injuries from a fall from a serious height a few decades ago.

I was Vegetarian for over 10 years. I went back to devouring poultry 🍗 and 🍖🥓meat. I don't eat a ton of it though. Thinking of going back to Vegetarian (lacto-ova)and eating mainly plant based with some 🥚 Eggs and cheese 🧀. I don't know yet. I have to give it more thought.

It would be better for my health if I cut down on cheese.

A few years ago, I started getting gut pain and toilet troubles from almost every kind of plant food, including grains, legumes, and vegetables. So I was definitely animal based.

Recently I seem to tolerate plant foods a bit better, and I've been enjoying some old favorites. But I think soon I'll go back to animal based. I just feel better on it.

I am afraid I have always eatin a animal based high protein diet. All the science indicates this is not a good thing. I am going to try to change….but I practically live off dairy.

I stay away from grains and sugar. I don‘t eat a lot of red meat or processed meats like sausage or lunch meats. I have hypothyroidism. I eat mostly non starchy vegetables, fruit, poultry or fish and low or non fat dairy. I miss full fat cheese.

I haven't eaten meat 32 years this summer. Plant based over 15 years. I'm fat. No health benefits. Just psychological benefits.

I also stopped palm oil 5 or so years ago. That's been harder than anything. Goodbye Trader Joe's cinnamon rolls in a can with icing. 😭😭😭

I eat whatever I want. I enjoy meat but also just as happy to have a good vegetable plate. I would say the one thing I eat everyday is toast with butter. May not have it for breakfast but is often a bedtime snack with a small glass of milk.

I’m fat too😆
I sympathize with you greatly about the cinnamon rolls!

I eat a balanced diet of vegetables and meat, with the meat being mostly chicken and fish. I eat red meat only when it's on sale or a special occasion calls for it like on Passover when I slow-cooked a lamb shank, which was delicious. I'm going to try the same technique for a roast.

That said, I've gained a few pounds over the winter because I didn't have my woodworking activities to burn off the calories. They'll come off quickly enough.

omnivore - I gave up steaks and roasts 5 years ago; now it is stir fry's or salads with small portion of meat or seafood.
I'm such a bad cook. I'd like to do stir fry stuff. I don't think mine come out very good. I had a stick free wok style pan but I stopped using stick free and it was like new so I donated it.

Got any real world tips?

While I admire people who eat a balanced diet, my personal preference is to follow a plant-based diet. I enjoy a variety of vegetables and plant-based proteins like tofu and lentils. I find that this type of diet makes me feel energized and healthy.

For example, last night I made a delicious lentil soup using vegetables like carrots, celery, and kale. I seasoned it with cumin and coriander, and it was packed with flavor and nutrients. I also love making roasted vegetable bowls with quinoa and chickpeas for a satisfying and filling meal.
Oh glad to see another plant based person here. I used to ID as vegan but stopped. I don't seem to fit the mold.

Anyway, last week I cooked some fresh broccoli and it had dirt or grit or something in it. I'd never had that happen before. I didn't buy fresh vegetables this week when I went shopping. I just have lettuce and tomatoes.

My cooking is not good. And I don't like to cook.

So I am going to switch to a primarily plant based diet. There are pretty compelling reasons for doing so…and it is just time. But….I love dairy….

What particularly do you like about dairy? Have you tried substitutes? Is there some particular health problem you're trying to avoid?

I eat a vegan diet, meaning I don't consume animal products to the best of my knowledge. I'm not an ethical vegan, it's just easier for me to stick within those boundaries. Makes doing the dishes really really easy. YMMV.

Don’t feel bad about it. You’re going in a great direction anyway. I’ve been a vegetarian for well over 30 years and have tried to give up dairy four separate times and failed every time.😆

Omnivore, but I lean toward meat eating. I'm allergic to all grains except oatmeal, and mildly allergic to dairy although I refuse to give up cheese. And I prefer beef or pork, in order of preference, with dark meat chicken in third place.

When we eat vegetarian meals it's usually at a restaurant. Ethiopian/Eritrean and Indian are our favorite choices for vegetarian - with lots of chiles! Need that yang to balance out all the yin in a vegetarian diet.
