So a little over a month ago i was asked to apply for a job I previously had........ i applied waited and waited for almost a month for the interview ....... the lady conducting interview said she had a couple more but should know end of week ..... not last week but the week before ......so on thursday of last week a week AFTER they said they would decide they called wanting me to do a SECOND interview.... tomorrow ..... i am not sure i even want this now after learning company has grown with layers of bureaucracy to deal with .......
On a Sunday too late to cancel but so many things Feel like i should pass on job..........
should i just do the interview and not try my best or should i politely decline or not put my best foot forward so they go another way ?

Forget about the layers, you're only concerned with YOUR job. This could be a golden opportunity. If you're unhappy in the future, leave. But if you don't take it, the door is closed locked and hermetically sealed. Let me know how it works out for you. Good luck, Rick

Yes, such things are discouraging. My sister worked at a Tim Hortons (terrible job). I needed a job right away, and they agreed to interview me, as a "favor" to her. Finally after 2 weeks they phoned me to come for the interview, but by that time I already had another job. They were upset with my sister about this. Like I'm going to wait 2 weeks to interview for a cr@p job!

Recently I applied for a volunteer position. I had to get a police check first. The people at the police station didn't know what they were doing, and they had me running back and forth. With one thing and another, it was 3 months before I could start the volunteer job. By that time it was the wrong time of year, etc.

I think it helps to know your own limits regarding how long you'll wait and so on. But it's hard, because we do feel somehow committed once the process is started. And then they spring some surprise on us.... Good luck, whatever you decide.

my job is to assist the whole layer of added people .......
company was small is growing decided to hire someone from a huge company and looks as if he is trying to recreate the layers they had....

I loved the position i worked as a contractor for 18 months about a year ago but was a department of 9 now 35 ........ i am just annoyed and frankly feel i am being asked in again because they TOOK so long ....... many people who NEEDED job took other ones by NOW ...
I can work or not and think at this point winning by being last one left in NOT winning.

Jeni, You might not like my answer. I say go with your gut feelings.
It's better to pass on a job and maintain your dignity than be in a job that
asks you to sacrifice your self respect.
If you have to beg for it, manipulate for it, compete and cater to their
beauacracy, it isn't right for you.
Step into your worthiness and realize someone is trying to tell you something
If the little red light in your head is warning you and telling you a job
you will enjoy is out there waiting for you, listen to your feelings.

I was hired once by an employer who also hired a man for the same job, at the same time.
He told me he was going to wait a week or so and decide which employee he wanted to keep.
Well, I had 20 years experience and knew I was the better candidate.
But, I didn't like the way the boss handled this, so I quit on the spot.
If he could do that, I knew I would have other disputes with him.

I think you should go and do the interview to the best of your ability. You want to continue to have their respect whether they offer you the job or not, or if offered, even if you decide not to accept. Just stay on good terms because one never knows where an old contact is going to pop up next and could be helpful in the future.

well for those of you retired or not on the job market let me tell you this is the way it was going ..... apply for 15( all i was qualified or over qualified ) maybe hear back from 3 or 4 and it takes them a month plus and the ADS all say .......................Hiring urgently LOL

they wait too long hire badly and THEN it is reposted in about a month .......... and they wonder why places are not staffed the hiring managers are doing WHAT?

Not really clear about this.

Are you still at the job & the employer wants you to reapply or not working & your experience is needed?

i had this contracted job for 18 months ( at 18 months the agency wants companies to hire on or let employee go) ...........
Contract ended about a year ago as they were redesigning the team new boss not sure my position was needed ....
NOW they want to start my position back up as it always was needed.
staff is excited about the prospect of me returning.........but have also warned me it is a big difference and atmosphere.

i think i was thinking going back was going to be similar to last time but with all the layers that were explained sounds very disorganized and trying to play catch up in the department.........

Now it's do you need the job? Your intuition about the work environment should guide you.
If the work you contracted to do is in demand even if you decide to not take the job, IMO it's always best to leave on good terms.

I follow my gut feelings and past experience when deciding on whether to accept an offer. I was asked to contract for a company that would have required my building a North American sales force. I declined. Been there, done that and it is beyond a full-time job.

Re: your particular situation, my company reduced staff by over 50% during Covid. One of my former employees has now been hired several times on a contract basis because, just like in your situation, they realized they need someone with experience in the position. We communicate frequently, and she tells me the company is now so disorganized and unresponsive she can't wait until her contract ends. She is very frustrated.

If you have a bad feeling about the company you may be re-entering, do the second interview but don't commit unless you need the income and can put up with the bureaucracy.

Thank you for the response ...
i do NOT need the job ..........but wanted to work as the extra income was for a remodel idea etc....
I can relate to your former employees insight ........ and do not want to experience that.
I still feel bad for those applying for many jobs and getting this sort of run around...........
which is not limited by industry or level of employee as 2 family members had similar experience... taking 6 weeks plus to bring someone on board.

I am feeling lately that my initial wanting to reapply was the job in the old format was challenging and rewarding.................
the description i have received sound more like busy work and i cannot fathom how 35 people doing a job 9 were doing........ is anything but busy work to justify such a heavy staff.

I've read your comments. When someone gets a negative thought it is extremely difficult to erase. You cannot enter a job with a dislike for the company or it's culture. It will weigh on you until it consumes your attitude, your performance will suffer. Make your decision, stand by it and don't look back. Look through the windshield not the rearview mirror. You'll enjoy the forward view and won't see the past. Good Luck, you'll make the right decision!

As far as getting a job it depends on how hungry I am or will be.
Having said that I must add that I rely heavily on my instincts/gut feelings. It has saved my butt quite a few times. JMO

I would just be politely honest with them.

I agree. I'd go with my feelings and it sounds like you already don't want this job. Something better may be waiting for you. You won't be happy doing something you don't want to do.

This is the wisest advise on here!

@Jack Frost, I hope you will post more often.
Personally, I'd love to read more of your views!
